haha, that's funny. i'm in michigan, and i plan on going offroading. i will personally NEVER own a 2x4 truck of any kind.

Hey, that makes sense to me. If I lived in Michigan and go off roading, I wouldn't buy a 2X4 either.

Here in Atlanta the ratio of 4X2 to 4X4 is about 80% 4X2 and 20% 4X4 for the 4Runner. For the Highlander the percentage of 4X2 is around 90%. I get this ratio from going onto the web site of dealers and seeing what their inventory is.

Heck in Michigan I think it would be hard to find a 4X2. They probably don't even sell them at all, OK maybe a few.

I still like the ruggeness of the truck and I use it's ability for what I do, still using 4 wheel drive is a bit down on my list as it is with 80% of people living in Atlanta.

yeah, luckily for me, most of the ones that i check out up here are 4x4. still impatiently waiting for the right one to come along for me to buy as a 2ndary vehicle. till then, luckily winter is ending and i have my 94 celica GT (5-speed) to keep me entertained. i don't think it'll do to good on the dunes though. . . . .

Well I never utilized my 4x4 in my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Also where I am it NEVER snows/ice so I figured there is no need for 4x4 with VSC, etc. Plus there was NONE in my region when I bought my 04 4runner. Love my V8 though.

No 4X2 4runners on the lot

I did a walk through last summer on 2 Connecticut Toyota dealer lots and looked at EVERY 4runner there was available (was looking for a Limited V6 with a few options). Neither dealership had a 4X2.
Maybe it was because it was August and there wasn't a huge selection of 2003's left. HOWEVER there are almost a 50/50 split of Highlanders with either 4X2 or 4X4.
If it snows where you live, 4X4 is very nice. I live in a very hilly area, and even with FWD and traction control (my last car) I could not climb the hills home on some occasions, unless they were plowed AND sanded. With the 4X4 4runner, no problems at all.

Most of the modern day SUV have AWD systems suited for changing road conditions, mostly due to less offroaders and more mall cruisers, 4x4 is an important feature for someone who likes to park on snow mounds at the mall just imagine how much you have to spin to get out of the snow after it sank in for several hours, the AWD does help the onroad performance but I doubt many people are utilizing that in an SUV:50cal:

Anyways here in NY/NJ the dealers don't have 4X2, you can special order 1 but they would probably just offer you a better price on a 4x4 model, but I have a 4x4 and always will, if they continue to build vehicles with AWD then so be it

I think this thread started because the 4Runner was meant to be a 4WD off road vehicle, why would we buy a 2WD. On my 2WD I still have the 9.8" clearance, skid plates and numerous hooks under the car. All of the equipment such as transmission are up high to avoid hitting the ground.

I think what we are finding out, where you live in a great part decides what you drive. The 2WD owners seem to be mainly in the South and it is almost impossible to buy a 2WD up North.

I still go on some trails to go camping, but the need for 4WD just come up that much.

2000 SR5 4x2 here

I have a 2000 SR5 4x2. I'm planning to sell it. I'm trying to figure out how to price it. It's single owner with 99K miles. I have all paperwork of all maintenance. It's in great shape and really clean. Been parked in garage 99% of it's existence. I don't have much input on the 4x2 vs 4x4 because it was my mom's and I've only driven it a couple times. I like it though but I don't need another vehicle.
