If the OP wants to hunt obstacles in groups then, yeah, 4x4 and start building it.
If he just wants to go places sedans and minivans can't go, the 2wd 4runner will take him to lots of them. With some good experience, some of them would be places a noob in a 4x4 might not make it to.

The car wasn't ours initially. It was my sister in law. But, she wanted to trade her car for our Camry.
