4x4 conversion help

Im going to be doing a 4x4 conversion on my 1999 limited 2wd. Ive done my fair amount of research on the conversion and what i think i need.

So far ill need:
4wd transfer case
front drive shaft
front diff
cv axels
4x4 ecu

Thats what i have down so far besides the cutting into the console and putting the 4wd shifter in.

Am i on track so far with what i need? If not please tell me what else i will need to complete the conversion.

Also, i know it would be easier to just buy a 4wd 4runner but thats not my concern.

There are several 4wd conversions on here I think, have you searched for them? Also check some of the other forums, yotatech, ttora, etc. You will be far better off reading up on this conversion rather than asking for a list of parts.

You basically need a four wheel drive truck any way you slice it - either a new one to drive, or a parts truck to get your stuff from. It'll be much cheaper than acquiring everything one at a time.

Im pretty sure ive read through every 4x4 conversion on multiple forums. I think getting a donor truck would be best though. Its just a matter of finding a donor truck, which is a pain..

Also should i swap out the transmission or just keep mine. Ive never had a single problem with my engine or transmission. Though my 4runner has 213,888 miles..

Is the rear driveshaft on a 2wd longer or the same length as a 4wd?

personally i think the best way to do a 4 wheel conversion is to sell yours and buy a 4wheel drive model and bam! done. the money youd spend on parts could make up the difference in selling yours and buying another.

and to answer your question about driveshafts i would assume so. you dont have a t case.

as far as keeping your trans. are you comfortable with rebuilding yours? the main difference between a340e and a340f is the output shaft oil pan and filter there are a couple other differences aswell.

The only reason im not leaning towards selling mine and just buying a 4wd is that i know my car and how it runs, its never been driven hard and has no rust on the body.

Also my car was in a hit and run while i wasn't even by my car. Being in collage there was a couple of witnesses that saw the incident go down and let me know so i filed a police report. I luckily saw a car the next day fitting the description of what the witness said and proceeded to call the cops and they took over from there. I am now waiting on a check from the insurance company for $3000.

My back hatch still opens but it hurts to look at it lol. I dont think i could get much for my 4runner with quite a bit of damage on the back end.

Im going to get a donor vehicle and swap out the back end and do a 4x4 conversion while im at it.

I dont know much about rebuilding my transmission but ill look into it
