I have always practiced engaging the front end of all my trucks with auto locking/unlocking on a near daily basis. Since I live on dirt roads, I simply engage to the pavement and re-engage when returning home. On my manual hub equipped trucks, I regularly dismantled, cleaned and greased the hubs and generally left them locked all winter due to snow and ice on the roads.
As for “use it or loose it,” I heartily agree. I’ve seen several times people brag about never engaging their front end, needed it and got only broken parts for their efforts to engage.

Because of this post, I engage my 4Hi very often, I would say at least 10x a year. A few years before, I noticed mine would take a long time to engage. Now, because I "exercise the actuator", it engages pretty quickly. Thanks [MENTION=1300]Kmvreter[/MENTION] for this post.

So I had mine up on the lift today lookin' around. I found the vent line to the actuator cracked and barely on. Cut it back and added a ty-wrap to secure. Actuate and check that vent hose people. I added about 20cc of ACF50 to the vent hole before I re-installed the hose. If any of you are in aviation that might sound familiar. It is non-conductive, non- corrosive water repellant. Ill report back on the function after a while. It surely can't hurt. At a display at a conference they had a TV half submerged in ACF50 and it was turned on running like normal. It is formulated for corrosive environments in aviation use.
