4x4 PSA: Use it or lose it monthly reminder

I had a small issue with 4lo blinking on the dash except it did engage (about 8 months without use).

Went wheeling on sunday with lots of 4lo action, and the blinking stopped.

Went through 2wd, 4hi and 4lo without any problems or delays.

I guess the old girl just needed some exercise
 
Just an extra reminder for your wallet, luckily I didn't have to pay a penny for this.

Got hassled by a renta cop..

for doing 4 wheel drifts in a vacant lot with the VSC off....
 
So, what are the 'normal' sounds of the transition between 2H to 4H and 4H to 4L? I just got a 2008 SR5 V6 and it has recently had "the 4x switch thingy" replaced by the guy that traded it in I spoke with him and due to a language difference it appears whatever was replaced was pricy but he can't clearly articulate the repair. I changed all diff and case fluids and have been exercising the actuators and they are smooth. It does make sounds sometimes, however. My only experience is with a 92 4x4 v6 hilux with all manual everything. Curious, as it has 160K on it, what normal sounds like.

Also, the toyota site dies not show the "4x switch thingy" repair and all the o/c and lube receipts were from a ford dealer, so i have no idea if it had the actual switch in the dash replaced or if it was the actuator assembly. I do know it does not leak and looks clean.

Quick question, since purchasing my rig about 6 months ago, I've never been able to successfully engage the factory rear electronic locker. Any tips? I've tried slowly moving side to side in the dirt etc. Everything else engaged perfectly.

I think it's normal for these to make a few clicking noises while engaging/disengaging
