4x4 vs 4x4 vs 4x2

Before I go looking some more I want some more opinions. At this point I'm leaning on going with a 4x2 since I will never go wheeling and down here in Texas they hold their values just as well as 4x4. I feel like I will never use the 4x4 system for it's true purpose and that is to wheel. Anyone have any other input. I know I am getting a SR5 for sure.....

here's another of my $.02.
The mpg difference between 4x2 and 4x4 is only about 1 or 2 mpg more than the 4x4.
The truck is rugged and it just begs one to go off-road when driving around. It taunts one to go off-road.
From what I have interpreted so far reading this thread, is there a need for the 4Runner that another 'ute couldn't cover? Maybe with better gas mileage, unibody, etc.?
Don't get me wrong, I love it that you are looking at a 4Runner! I am on my second one straight in 10 years. I also had words with my dad as to why I chose the latest 4Runner over a Highlander lol! But I do find excuses to put it into 4x4 and thus wouldn't have enjoyed the 4x2 version as much.
As for build quality and ruggedness you can't go wrong with the 4Runner.

We used to have a 2001 SR5 in our family from 2001-2011. My dad handed it down to me as my first car when I was in high school and I drove it for 4 years. Loved everything about it. Work horse of a machine and I felt like a king driving it. I hate "utes"! They look terrible and girly and I would feel very emasculated driving one. LOL. As far as MPG goes, I am not even taking it into consideration. If I do then I am either going new Camry or Accord. I'm looking at the Runner for what it represents and I full confidence that it will last me an easy 10 years if I need it to and I will love every second of it.
