I feel really dumb for asking this but I have no idea what the 4x4 shift pattern is for my runner. The diagram wore off the shifter years ago and I cant figure it out for the life of me. I tried twice and it just made really angry noises. HELP ME!

Should be a J shape movement if I remember correctly

Left column: ~~~~Right column:

_______ L4
H2_____ ||
|| ______||
H4 =====N

Single lines ( like ____ ) denote blank space, and the || and ='s denote the shifter action in the shift gate. Always put the main drive lever in N when you shift to L4 on the transfer case

Agreed^

Although you do have to kind of give it a good push to get it into L4 w/o grinding the gears. In other words don't do it slow and make sure you are past neutral. There have been times where I thought I was in L4 but was actually in neutral, silly me.

Only to shift into Low 4. If you want to shift into High 4 then you can just pull the lever back and you don't have to put it into neutral.

Haha thanks Matt, thats what I assumed. I have never owned a toyota 4x4 only ......... (cough) Chevy and (cough cough) FORD. Seems like every make has different rules.
 
I use it on dry pavement sometimes. Probably at least once a month. People say you shouldn't do it though. Let's hope nothing happens. (Knock on wood)

I don't turn with it engaged or anything.
 
The main reason I bought the runner is because over Christmas I tried to drive from Vegas to Lewiston Idaho to see my family and got caught in the mother of all snow storms. I was driving a 2WD highlander and thought I was going to die on hwy 84 north of Saltlake going into Idaho. I had to drive about 65 miles in the worst road conditions I have ever been in before I could turn around and drive 65 miles back to Saltlake. I had to use the rumble strip on the side of the road to get any traction. it ended up dumping somewhere around 6 feet on that pass.

So I vowed I would never let that happen again. Hence my mission to make the runner the biggest baddest off-roading, snow demolishing, ice cutting, rain slicing, mud wrestling truck EVER!
 
haha, yeah just tuesday i was going through salt lake, and all of a sudden bam it was snowing then... it was sticking... then!! there was a 10+ car pile up! sadly the very last car i saw was a runner :( only yota in the aftermath

I just now realized that you are from vegas:bonk: I know almost as many people in vegas as I do in colorado. Sorry to get off topic but did you hear about the Ronnie Radke murder. Ronnie was the lead singer of Escape the Fate and was an accomplis to murder. I lived with Ronnie and a few other people like 3 years ago in vegas (only for like 2 months) and used to be really good friends with him.

yeah, i remember that. i didnt know him personally but i know of a few people that were at that park that night.
 
ha! i was there in that snow storm too. i duno im kinda wierd but love driving in the snow. the snow storms are pretty brutel sometimes here in utah, im sure there are worse elsewhere too. man id be pissen my pants too if i was in a 2 wheel drive SUV. funny story i was teaveling with my f brother in law in his Sequia (did i spell that wrong?) but ya i was on i80 when that storm hit and cars were all over onnthe side of the road. well right outside of lovelock it looked like it was plowed so my bro took it out of 4 wheel and sure enogh we started fish tailing and headed into a pile of cars that slipped in the same spot. luckly we hit a bush instead. but everyone was okay we put in in 4wheel and pulled right out of that ditch. toyotas are great in the snow, even in 2wheel that traction control saved us from rolling. lol
