4x Innovations: 84-89 4 Runner Rock Slider

Awesome price. Any reviews?

I don't generally go looking for fights with rocks, on my rig they'd be a just-in-case kind of addition, and an extra place to stick a hi-lift under.

There's no reason they wouldn't work just fine.
I'd make some fish plates and stiffener brackets/gussets, personally.

A lot of 3rd gen guys have them and have 0 complaints. Go for it. Even the HREW holds up great, so DOM is if you are planning on getting in fights with rocks often.

they come with 1/4" frame plates and gussets.

I have a set in hrew. They have been great. I have beat them up but they are still working . I should have gone the dom route, but when i bought them i had no plans and wheeling my 4runner super hard. I had my set, I went on a run with Brian2sun he had the tg sliders. Next thing you know he orders a set of 4xinnovations, then Driffter33 orders a set. They are great, and they dont hurt the wallet too bad.

Ohh yeah we all have kick outs. Get those. they really help.

It's between these and Addicted Offroads. I really like the kick-out, but I also like Addicted's.

I'm not buying quite yet, but I think for me it's between these and the Rocky Road Outfitters rock rails. I'd pay about $250 after shipping for the 4xinnovations, but I'd have to do a little work to get them mounted. I'd pay $300 for the Rocky Roads, no shipping because I can pick them up, and they'd be ready to bolt on.

Bolt on sliders = Bad idea IMO.

I have heard they have issues when you slam them hard. Like twisting the frame or something.

if you plan on hitting anything other than the usual curb, bolts break a lot easier than welds! just sayin

Besides, wouldn't I rather break some bolts and have to toss the slider in the bed, instead of tweaking the frame?

If you add plates inbetween your arms and the frame then put a few gussets in there you'll be fine. I'm building some now for my 4runner, I'll post pics this weekend. I'm using 1.75 hrew square tubing and 3/16" plate on the frame.

Good advice! Use frame plates and gussets. Stay away from bolt on sliders. Or dont and buy them. But if you wheel em hard i bet you will have issues with them

Ok, but - what issues? I've got some of you telling me I'll twist the frame, which would imply that bolts are too strong, and others telling me the bolts will break, which would imply that they're weaker than welds.

I don't mind taking advice, but I'm confused.

Its hard to design a bolt on rockslider that will not deflect into the body when really smashing on it. All the bolts and brackets leave small amounts of flex. That will show up with some load. Chances are you wont break the bolts. bolts are really strong. (grade 8) its just there is nothing better to eliminate flex than a weld on slider. Look my sliders are bent and dented. whats to keep the slider from sliding down the frame after repeated use. Its just a tacky design. I know its appealing to those that cant weld, but im sure there are plenty of local welders that will do it for a small fee. I would weld on a buddies sliders any day.


Even welded on with 4 legs, frame plates and gussets my sliders have hit the body. Just sayin.

Made any progress on your decision? I was just checking out RockyRoads sliders, they look pretty good. Nice and close in to the body.

Here my thoughts on them without seeing them or every hearing about them before. They say they attach to the frame and sit on the seam of the body. All the other types say to leave a gap to try and eliminate road vibrations. But I like how tight they are to the body. Get the super sliders, that extra bar that comes out adds a lot of rocker protection. I say get them (if they are the ones you decide on) and bolt em on. If you find that they sill move, weld them on. The other thing, which is just my personal preference, is that I made mine to stick out just farther than than body, so if i decide to pivot off a tree, Im doing it on the slider, not the body. But alas, I still seem to get alot of body damage. Haha.

If you get the 4xi, spring for the DOM rather than the HREW. I have the HREW ones (because I'm cheap) After a few trips and some HARD slams on the sliders, my pass one is bent up slightly and they both have a few dings in them. You wouldan't know unless I pointed them out, but I know they're there. Again, depends on the trails you run and your wheeling style.

Good luck on the decision. Im sure youll be happy with which ever one you get.
