I have, actually. I was going to wait until I got them to post up . A local fellow set up a group buy, and if it goes through I'll have a set from Trail Gear at a re****edly awesome discount. I think I would have preferred the Rocky Roads and then the 4xIs, but for what I'm paying for the TGs they're practically disposable.

So, I've been staring at these for about a month now, had 'em on the jackstands a couple times, and could use some insight on setup angles and such.

What I think I want is to have them fairly tight, probably not sticking out any farther than my tires, right? And probably the legs short as possible, to reduce leverage if I hammer on them?

So do I cut the legs short-short, with the inside tube of the rails under/inside the pinch weld, and the angle near 90 degrees? Or do I cut the legs a little longer and angle the rail more towards 45 degrees?

I kinda like the look of the angled slider better, tucked up underneath the door, but I'm worried that it'll be more prone to catch on the crossbeams if I end up leaning on it in a tight spot.

Why would you cut the legs and bring them closer to the frame? that defeats the whole purpose of sliders. I remember a company recently coming out with low pro sliders. I was thinking WTF i can tell you have no clue what happens when your wheeling. They would kinda work if you drop off a ledge, which would normally hit the frame. but generally you hit you use you sliders to pivot around stuff and to keep larger stuff off the doors. And then any off camber use brings things even closer

They should AT LEAST be as far out as the widest part of the door, which happens to be right about door handle height. Dont cut the legs. If i remember right the kit has 2 extra long legs, I cut those to match the rest.

Honestly i wish mine stick out just a little more, It really helps when your truck is leaning towards a rock. The kickout on my sliders stick out almost as far as my 35s.


As far as the angle. Just eyeball what you like. Generally the door will limit you on the angle. If you go too much your doors wont be able to open. And make sure you check the back door with the kick out. Give your self some room so if they bend you can still open the door.

I tacked the frame plates on the frame where they fit. Then tacked the legs to the frame plates at 90º. then i played around with the slider on the angle and whatnot. and once i was happy then i tacked it too the legs. Cut the frame plates off and welded the sliders up then welded them on.

Because closer to the frame equals less leverage if I end up leaning on them? I'll have to snap a pic this weekend and show you, I guess. Without cutting the legs, they're way too wide. Like, a good 6-8 inches outside my tires wide. And that's after I angled them as far as I could and still leave clearance for the door.

I have mine sticking out juuuuust past the with of the body, so that I can pivot around a tree with them, by my trucks WB is a good 10" longer than yours. However, that works in theory, but as I found out, if the truck is tilted towards the object, your gonna hit the body anyway (notice my bed in the pics below). I "half mooned" the pinch weld to get them up tighter to the body, and the inside tube it about 1/4" from the pinch weld. I can get underside pics this weekend if you would like them. I had to cut about 1.5 inches off each of the legs.

And everybody like posting pictures of their own stuff, heres looking down mine.

And heres another thought. The 4runner on the right has his just sicking out past the body, but with the wider tires/offset rims, the sliders dont hang out so much anymore. His are homebrew.

No, cuz I thought I was buying that '85 and they were gonna go on it. That's off the table, so now I'm just waiting for a weekend with half decent weather so I don't freeze my balls off crawling around my driveway.

i have TG dom slider, and i've add my own .25 thick mounting plates and gussets, and i still manage to bent them up about .25 inch, and dent the tubing. just to give you an idea.

Yeah, but the TG DOM isn't the same quality of the 4x and other companies. Jerry mentioned it himself when he was fabing some TG sliders for a LC.

mine is pretty freaking strong, took almost half of a cut off wheel to cut though one tube, is his dom too? btw 4x's steel is no better than TG.
