What is that thing on the roof on the last picture?

Gps antenna for an older Garmin. I keep it in the 4Runner because my speedo is way off so the gps becomes my speedo and odometer on longer trips.

Not much new lately, but I did get around to building my own roof rack. Always hated the way that the Yakima and Thule racks look on the first gen so I wanted a low profile strong rack.

Rack looks awesome. Did you drill the holes in the sides? Looks like a rack I found online and I am trying to replicate.

Not trying to answer for nvwiggins, but my guess is he used a hole punch and a dimple die to get the flaired hole look. You could probably use a hole saw also, but not as clean of a cut.
Eastwood sells a hole punch/dimple die all in one that looks pretty slick, they also make one that does a raised bead around the hole.

Oooo, the flare didn't even register with me until your post. Damn that looks good. Looks like he threaded the cross bars to be able to bolt on too! I've got a new design to copy....
