5 star toyota wheels and spider traxx spacers

I am considering adding a 1.25" spacer on my 4Runner.

I do not really understand the backspacing of some wheels vs others.

my question is can I put a spacer on with these wheels? Am I going to be near a safety limit of some kind?

I'm running them.
The 5 star have a backspacing (measured from the inside mounting surface to the tire lip) of ~4 5/8". That puts the wheel centerline inboard by 1 1/8". Add the 1 1/4" spacer and the BS is effectively 3 3/8" or the centerline moves outboard by ~1/8".

In my book? Safe as can be. Just make sure that you properly torque the inner lug nuts and use locktite. I have friends that race Baja with wheel spacers. The only issue they have had was the "I thought you tightened them, No I thought you tightened them".

Backspacing is the distance from the mounting flange of the wheel to the inner edge of the wheel. Less backspacing means it'll be pushed out more. In the pic below, the wheel on the left has more BSing so it's sucked in more. The one on the right has less BSing so it's pushed out farther. Don't look at the pic as if it's a passenger and a driver side wheel, but look at both as the passenger side wheel if you're looking at it from the front.

Your stock BSing is 4 5/8" so with the 1 1/4" Spidertrax you'll have an effective BS of 3 3/8".

Wheel spacers put more leverage on everything down there so there's that. Your tires may rub too, especially on the firewall because spacers will increase the arc in your steering. That said, I run 1" spacers up front and haven't had any issues in the 3 years since I got them.

Wheel spacers are fine, IMO. I used blue locktite on them though. One disadvantage is that since they sticking a little further out, your tires do tend to rub more on fenders.

Even with 6" of lift, FZJ-80 coils, I would rub on the rear...(lots of shaving of the rear bumper)

So if you're close now you may need to do some more trimming!!

I am hoping I will not rub. I have 2.5 & 3" of lift and am only running 31.5" tires. Right now I can flex really well without rubbing.
