Hey guys,
I plan on 5100s all around with the front set at the middle setting after Christmas. What I would like to fix is some of the rake the truck has and the weak rebound off of speed bumps it has. Would I need front and or rear Fj springs too? Not looking for perfect, just looking to firm up a bit and lessen the rake. If i need springs, is there a complete shock/spring assembly that i should look at?

Unless your springs are wore out everything you want will be accomplished with the 5100's. Mine soaks up bumps/potholes and such easily now. They are pretty firm at low speeds, but after you get going a little you'll really notice they soak up the bumps.

New shocks will fix the weak rebound a bit. But springs and shocks would be best and meet your needs. You won't lessen the rake just with shocks. Basically, shocks don't provide lift, springs do. check out the suspension sticky and lift pics to see what you like. There are lots of options. then do the install yourself (if you have the ability or like to try new things) to get acquainted w/ the truck - so you can see what kind of condition everything is in.

You're basically in the same boat as me. I'm going to be getting 5100's for all four corners and FJ springs for the front. The 5100's in front will be set at 0.85" which (with the FJ springs) should level the truck perfectly and provide a more firm and planted ride.

I'll be getting the 5100's within the next week. I've been looking for used FJ springs without any luck so I'll probably just get new ones. Should be less than $150. Hopefully within the next two weeks I'll have a much-improved ride!! :biggrin2:

I was in the same boat as well.. 170k on the original shocks, they rode horrible. I used the 5100's to level out my Tacoma so I knew I was going to go this route on the 4Runner..The front of my 4 runner sagged something horrible.

I was all set to install the 5100's at the .85 setting with stock springs, then I happened to find a set of FJ front springs in the classifieds so I picked those up. I ended up installing the FJ springs with 5100's at the 0 setting. This setup got me ~1" of lift, which is what I wanted..close to level, just a slight front rake. I tow a boat with my 4Runner so I didn't want the back way lower when towing.

The ride is night and day different with the new 5100's!

I have wheels and tires being mounted as I type this..pics to come.

While you have things torn down you might as well replace the springs. I put on MOOG's designed for the V8 and it turned out perfectly. The MOOG springs only cost about $100 on Amazon.

Thanks guys for the input. Now I think I need front springs. Hehe May check into them at the dealer. Cant be that much. I'll compare with the Moogs.
