5100's on stock springs?

Sorry if this has already been answered but all my searches found 4th gen guys doing this, no 3rd's.

Is it possible to run 5100's on a stock height rig (part #24-249966). I'm still running originals and need to replace them. I want to do a lift down the road and I'm towing around 4,500 lbs so I think the beefier 5100's will be better than the stock setup.

Yes you can. I currently have Tacoma 5100s with stock 99 coils in the front. On the lowest setting, they sit a little higher than stock. They won't change anything in rear

Is the part #24-249966 correct for the rear 5100's? I got that off tirerack.com just searching by model.

Any advantage/disadvantage to the 5100 vs the yellow HD bilsteins?

One thing to keep in mind for the rears is that the tundra 5100 rear shocks have a longer compressed length than OEM 4runner shocks. I can't remember exact numbers but it's about an inch or two longer (compressed). With factory bump-stops you may bottom out the shock and cause damage. I haven't ran this setup personally btw, just did a lot of looking around because I wanted to do exactly what you are asking. Fronts are no issue.

Yeah that's what I was worried about. I wonder if the 99 highlander tall coils would boost enough to run with the 5100's properly. There is someone near me on CL selling a used set. Otherwise I might just replace with OEM bilsteins.

Again lift planned down the road, plan was 99 talls or another modest 1-2 inches. Lift goal would be to maintain ride and aid towing without going to the level requiring diff drop and panhard brackets.

Most my upgrades come when parts fail and need to be replaced anyway, hence the shocks. Coils are still holding up good, no rear sag.

Why would you get Tundra rear 5100s when you can get 5100s specifically for the 3rd gen? I would just get them from wheelers offroad. Front Taco/4runner 5100s and rear 3rd gen 5100s. This set up will work very well with 99 coils all around. Bilstein HD 4600s are identical valving to 5100s per application. 5100s are just longer to accommodate a lift.

I'm running Tundra 5100s up front with 99 coils on the top perch. Around 3.5" of lift. I know you don't want that much lift right now, but just wanted to show you that if you get the Tundra 5100s up front you will be able to adjust your lift from stock to 3.5". Always nice to know you have options to go higher.

I didn't know the valving was the same, that's good to know. Actually tried to order the 4600's last night through AJUSA for the Veteran's Day sale but there site kept stalling at the checkout.

Is the part #24-249966 right for 3rd gen 5100's? I pulled it off tirerack.com.
