I recently picked up this black 99 SR5 auto 4x4 with locker, 210K miles and a blown motor.. 500 bucks! But, before i share this truck, I don't think i ever ended up doing a build thread for my old 4runner so ill start with posting some pics of that one.. i sold this to someone in Nevada (maybe they still have it and will see this) i miss that truck! anyway here's the old truck. 97 5spd 4x4 w locker and 190K ish miles. Really just had Sonoran still lift. 33's and the tundra 199's
Anyway. here is the 99, i picked it up from a friend, he bought it from the original owner and had been pretty well maintained. New tires, new battery, kept up on oil changes etc. about a month ago he took it in to the shop and they told him the motor was blown (left him stranded at the airport) anyway, he offered it to me and i picked it up.
I ended up going and grabbing an engine from a import shop in phoenix. ran me about 1000 bucks. I had to swap pretty much everything over as i think this motor was from a 2wd t100 or tundra, pretty much every accessory was different including the crank pulley.
Few pics of the new engine, swapping accessories and then motor ready to go back in, and finally back in the truck.
I ended up doing pretty much every gasket, swapping oil pans, crank pulley, power steering, alternator, water pump, thermostat, timing belt, plugs, wires etc etc. motor fired right up and runs amazing. recently just did the front rear and transfer case fluids, poly steering bushings, and have put about 800 miles on the new motor. so far it has been an amazing truck. took it up to show low last weekend and it did great (other than ABS / snow crap and the brakes need to be upgraded, long fast hills it didnt like) looking forward to continuing to mod this thing.. next upgrades are brakes, tires and lift. followed by some interior mods, led dash lights and a power inverter.
