5spd grenade...

I am going to assume the bell housing off a tacoma 4 cylinder 5 speed is the same. There should be plenty of them out there.

It's actually been surprisingly difficult. I haven't found one that will separate from the trans. Maybe I should start asking for W59 cores instead...

You may have to buy another complete transmission to get that bell housing. As I can see the parts folks not wanting to seperate that and sell separately.. :(

You need to find somebody with a blown trans (4Runner or Tacoma) and buy it as a 'core' to get a bellhousing, most likely.

Yours is most likely just fine and/or repairable though.

Open it up and see how broken it is in there...

That's funny, no matter how I search, interchange or not...nothing shows up. Same search.
That is weird. I'm seeing a bunch.

I was thinking about this just a bit ago. Any idea what aluminum the bell is made from? I took a transfer case in a while back to have a spot welded up and the welder told me it was magnesium, not aluminum. For whatever reason he couldn't weld the magnesium.
He wouldn't weld magnesium because it will catch fire. Yes, magnesium burns. And when it does catch fire, it's a bear to put our because it burns so hot.

I found what came through the side of the bell housing.

The crack is on the passenger side. Those bolt bosses only support a bracket to hold some wires. I'm hoping it's an easy weld.

Since the trans shifted fine and its just leaking, should I replace the front and rear seals and call it good? Or at this mileage should I take it somewhere and have it gone through?

The transfer case is leaking pretty bad too. I found a kit for that and it should be pretty straight forward. Truck has 285k on it. The clutch that blew apart was Chinese.

I would just change seals and weld her up. Should be fine. :)

Granted with new clutch parts oem oem mfg.

Marlin was out of flywheels when I needed a clutch at 250K so I went Aisin with a Sachs flywheel.

Everything works great, so I'm happy, but Next time Marlin all the way.

The bell housing may be magnesium

Is the bell housing aluminum or magnesium? As I didn't think Toyota cast magnesium case housings?? I would verify what metal is first. Then weld.. :-)
