Didn't buy my 5G T4R for speed....if I want to have a fast 0-60 time I'll drive my Mustang GT and maybe those 2 seconds of yours will help keep you in my rear view mirror for 2 more seconds :nod:

All i have to say is at first my manual took some getting used to off-road,but once i realized that 4low was my best friend it was almost like driving an auto. Much like KidV said its would just crawl up and crawl down at the same speed. It didnt matter if it was dry or muddy. Just let my foot off the clutch and tap the gas. My wife would prefer a auto off-road, but she is also a girl with arthritis in her knees brought on by her chrons disease. :lookout:

I disagree. My 3rd Gen is an automatic V6, would I have prefered to have a manual? Yes. Is my automatic boring and bad to drive? Absolutley not. I love driving it even if it is slow, gets bad gas mileage, and doesn't handle like a Ferrari. I drive my 3rd Gen more than my Supra. It's a fun truck to drive and I'm sure the 5th gens are fun to drive too if you make it your vehicle. I like driving my truck and seeing people break their neck trying to look at it and asking questions about it when I pull up. It's not like a 4Runner is a fast vehicle in any form. A 10+ year old Lexus GS400 would smoke it in a strait line, through curves and anywhere that is paved. A V6 Honda Accord is going to be faster. It doesn't take much to be faster than a 4Runner.

I don't know about anyone else but I've been 2 ft driving for years with auto , I'm not sure I could drive with just 1 ! I'm sure that's a no-brainer but had to say it but helps me when in need .

If only it was easier on the 01-02's. All the electronics make it a pain.
I think after driving a manual you can actually drive with 2 feet in an automatic fairly smoothly. If you've never driven a manual I don't know that you could. I've read it's supposedly better because you have better reaction times then, but they teach to drive with one foot because too many people jam the wrong pedal in emergency situations...

You know I really liked the TRD Pro...so much so that I searched all the dealerships in AZ for one...unfortunately they were sold out at the time of my vehicle purchase so I went with the Trail Ed. Have no regrets and love every bit of it.
Sure the TRD Pro would be/is nice but I still wouldnot discount the trail edition or SR5. My 2 cents...

I do like my TRD Pro, and think it looks cool. But I'm sure they all drive the same. I test drove a Limited, I think it was, before I bought mine, and the solid feel of the 4Runner in general was what really sold me. I just happened to get lucky and the dealer had a black TRD Pro sitting on the lot when I got back from test driving the Limited.

its funny that this comes out...when its almost unanimous between all of the other reviews that i read and saw that the 4rnnr was deemed spectacular when driving off road.

Also, isnt consumer reports suppose to define their reviews on actual data vs. what someone on their staff 'feels'? Many of us buy a Rnnr not only because of its dependability, but also because it drives, feels, and basically IS a truck. it doesnt drive like a car, doesnt handle like a car, doesnt feel like a car...solid axle, high stance, heavy, tank like...so if their staff members arent already truck-people, then who cares what they feel about the 4rnnr.
now give me a fun-feeling test from truck trend, the fast lane truck, 4x4 mag, or 4Wheeler...now THAT i will listen to and give an ounce of credit to.

GSPRunner--a 5th gen has to push nearly 18 pounds with each 1 horsepower. That's not far off from a stock 3rd gen since they weigh a whopping 800 lbs less. A supercharged 3rd gen is only pushing 13 lbs with each HP, which is a huge difference. Not to mention the 2 second difference in 0-60 time. The supercharged guy wasn't racing...
I'm not shaming the 5th gen. I want to see the gen of 4Runner return to something less than 100-series Landcruiser size and with a manual transmission. That will probably never happen, so I'll keep driving what I have.
