5th Gen 4Runner Fiberglass- Production/Discussion

weeeee do you think these will work for the 10-13 body style guys? Know the headlights are different up front but where the fender lines up seems to be the same shape for both body styles. Really interested in these. If I was closer I'd be down for dropping my 13 off and I have a snorkel.

Correct. Waiting on some final details, but they can take phone orders as early as next week once the truck is fully completed.

Might want to see if the pre-order is JUST for the non-snorkel version. Or if that's a secondary pre-order.

I'm interested. Since it hasn't been designed yet I just want to avoid a pre-order situation that drags out too long.

Let us know. Thanks Victor!

The fenders and hood for all 5th gens are the same, just the headlights, bumper, and grille section are different on the facelift models. It will definitely work.

I'll chat with them a bit about this on Saturday. The sooner they get a truck the better, but I'm not sure if they want to collect preorders on the snorkel version they haven't gotten made yet.

Agreed, they're smart to not do a pre-order for a product they haven't gotten yet. Turns it into an interest free loan and it's hard to give money back at that point.

Just let us know. Thanks.

Hmmmmm

Any idea who truck this is. Spotted in Ontario, CA.

Not a fan of those. Not at all. I'll give Victor's source a lot of credit for retaining the factory look and not bothering to integrate into the factor front end like that, as anyone really using their vehicle is going to have an aftermarket front bumper of some kind.

Be cool to see a front and back fender flairs... front looks good but be cool to match the rear

Scroll back a page. The fronts on this page are not the flares we're building.

The way it's designed, it will match the factory rears.

I've discussed building rear flares, but the added clearance they'll actually give is negligible without redoing the entire door skin or cutting into the wheel arches in the back. Not worth it.

Vic, any idea what will happen to that area near the pinch weld? Will it just be left exposed or covered up?

The one at the back of the fenders? Hot ticket item for me, since that's where I always hit my wheels. They couldn't do anything with the fenders on the truck, so they'll finish that area with the fenders off. Keep in mind the molds I posted aren't 100% complete yet.

Idea is to relocate that mount and also blend in something that transitions to the rocker panel (replacing the black molding that usually goes there).

Because my geometry is different on my setup, that's not really where I hit, I hit the TOP of the fender rather than the back corner. But I'd still like to chop that back further.

If they can offer a solution for relocation as part of this kit, that'd be ace.

Yeah, same here. At FJ Summit, any descent where i had to turn slightly sharp, I was hitting that back area of the fender. I took off the rocker cap after the first day and the lowest bolt...then took a knife to trim more of the fender liner out...which then allowed me to see where it rubs metal. I didn't want to go further until I got home. Took a cut-off wheel and BFH to it last weekend...not sure I can go much further.

theres a whole lot of King in that wheel well tho. still waiting on you to run some smoothies through the rear cargo area and cage the back half.:bounce:

The backwards rake says a lot about that build not necessarily being sprung right.

Either way, I like Victor's approach to the flares a lot more than those.

No rise at all huh, kinda hoping for at least an inch and slightly more competitive pricing, just doing a cursory search, $375-$475 for tundra or tacoma fenders - but i get it we are the minority when it comes to any fiberglass work, plus we won't be seeing a trophy truck 5th gen

Still, can't wait to see the final product. I wish i had never done a snorkel and would still like to replace my fenders, more clearance is better than none.

No doubt there will be cheaper options once our platform ages. I did talk with another vendor initially when doing this project. While the end product would've been cheaper going with them, I wouldn't have had the leeway to do any design input. We would've ended up with a typical 4" bulge and 2" rise, no snorkel integration either. Quality was also not to the level of the current vendor.

I was hoping for a 1" rise also, but given that I'm shying away from doing rears they'll match better now. You can still run the snorkel with the new setup once the mockup is done.

I'm all about quality. Buy once cry once, plus having the input in the construction and not going full bro-mode is way better too.

I hate my snorkel - this is my opportunity to go back to "stockish" while having more room for future long travel!

Fenders are officially done and ready for preorder. They'll be making the mold once we fulfill 10 preorders, or once I finish my trip in Wyoming/Colorado for some testing to make sure there's no issues with clearance- whichever comes first.

New fender clearance is at the 8" mark, OEM fender at 5" mark. Nets about 3" of additional inner fender clearance.

Excuse the Shrockworks filler plate quality under the headlights, makes all the fender lines look off. These pics show the nice and clean lines. Hood to fender fitment are slightly off, but will be adjusted on the final production pieces.

Door to fender fitment is a bit tight, but normal due to the additional thickness of fiberglass vs. OEM fender. The doors don't hit at all.

Looks factory!

Final design notes:
- These will fit all 2010+ 5th gen 4Runners.
- Net change is about 3" of additional clearance vs. the stock fenders.
- No rise planned currently, although this could change with the final production models.
- Snorkel models can also be preordered now, they have a design in mind, but they just want to make sure that nothing is wrong with the production pieces before they design the snorkel side.
- The lower fender mount was left intact, cap was left unblended due to varying slider designs. However, they way the lower fender is designed, you can easily modify the lower mount to eliminate the factory lower bolt that everyone seems to hit. I'll be posting a writeup about it this week.
- Unlike other fiberglass fenders on the market, these are made of hand-laid fiberglass vs. chop. This results in a slightly thicker than factory product, but is still thinner than most fenders. Also is very strong and light.
- All OEM attachment points are intact and clearly indented, taking the guesswork out of fitting the fenders.
- When ordering, you can elect for white gel coat (close to OEM Super White), black gel coat, or sandable black gel coat.

Pricing starts at $600/pair for the non-snorkel versions, extra $50 for the snorkel versions as these require different molds and are made of stronger fiberglass. 50% deposit required from 10 sets in order to produce these.

You can place preorders today by calling McQueen Fiberglass Designs at (310) 327-2337 or emailing [email protected].

I notice some pits/divots, and the A-pillar not matching up all that well, in addition to the hood line being off. Will they address that in the production versions?

Thanks for taking on this project.
