Tacomas still have drum brakes? Even the newest ones? Say it aint so...
Tacoma? Nah...not with the recent history of Tacomas and Tundras rusting to hell!! :sobbing: Not to mention that Tacoma and Tundra are now in the minority for NOT having fully-boxed frames! Drum brakes?! WTF?! :barf:
Other than the Land Cruiser, the 4runner is about it in terms of my favorite Toyota SUVs & trucks.![]()
Yup, the 4Runner is the best in the SUV and truck line up. I'm disappointed by the 5th, maybe it'll grow on me and it'll have some mid-cycle updates to the features we've been griping about. I'm not sold on a Sequoia because of IRS and its sheer size. I do like the LC, but for that kind of coin, I'd probably give up the latte at 10 and 3 for a few years and get its expensive cousin the LX570.
EDIT in regards to the heated mirrors. It seems to be standard on the Trail Edition which lacks a full time 4wd option but not available on the Limited edition which has the full time 4wd option. I don't really get that part
Also does anyone know if the front passenger seat in the limited is heated? The description on Toyota's site indicates that it is not...
Leather-trimmed and heated 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat with power lumbar support and 4-way power-adjustable passenger seat
EDIT in regards to the heated mirrors. It seems to be standard on the Trail Edition which lacks a full time 4wd option but not available on the Limited edition which has the full time 4wd option. I don't really get that part
in regards to key lock on passenger door side. My keyless entry on the Nissan Armada has run out of battery. I haven't had time to fix it for a few days (ok like 2 weeks) and not having a key lock on both sides of the car is a major Pain in the you know what.......
So you guys bring up how you can't be in 4WD drive now on pavement etc.
What I haven’t seen mentioned is the lack of 2WD in the Limited. Not sure if this was the case on the 4th generation 4Runner or not.
It is cost. There is no difference in mileage between the 5th gen Limited (full-time 4WD) and 5th gen SR5/TE (part-time 4WD).If it was not then the change now is that they have gone from 2WD or 4WD (on all surfaces) to either a 2WD with 4wd for “slipping condition” / Full-time 4WD. Guessing there was a big cost saving and the reason they don’t have the full time 4wd on other editions is for mileage purpose.
Didnt they change the oil filter location on the V6 and put it under the engine? Pure fail, that was the most brilliantly designed engine implement Ive ever seen.
Edit: X-Reas? I wouldnt give up my mini mirrors to save humanity I love those things.
alaska man - the Toyota dealer down by Gamble has a 4Runner 2010 sitting on their side lot - just as you turn on Gamble to the left. SR5 model and it is their dealer model so not for sale. Just figured you might want be interested in checking it out
I've input prices and features for the 2010 into TrueDelta's database, so it's now possible to run thorough price and feature comparisons.
Some features went away, others that used to be optional are now standard--telescoping steering wheel, illuminated visor mirrors, reclining second row. Overall, the 2009 had about $70 worth of extra stuff. The price increase is just a couple hundred dollars, but they've also narrowed dealer margins. So the invoice price, which probably has more impact on prices actually paid, is up about $500.

All 4runners still have underbody mounted full-size spares. This is listed in the specs at Toyota.com and you can see them in the photographs as well.
