What's the fix on the block heaters its deathly cold here.

I just had that safety recall performed. Got a letter from Toyota a few months back… the cord has been changed. It is now fully shrouded with aluminum type heat shielding. Perhaps the other types were burning up and grounding out not sure.

The plug up front is identical. And they provided me another two cords for it again, one long one short. Haven’t tried it yet, not cold enough in Toronto yet.

-19F this week and the 2014 SR5 started right up, no block heater.

'99 Chevy K2500 Suburban w/ 6.5 diesel has a block heater and it needs it due to the 21:1 compression ratio. It too started right up.

Any part numbers that I could take to the dealership to get them moving on this starting in -40C isnt a good thing

I emailed my local dealer. They say there is no block heater available.

Yes the Canadians get a block heater and yes after my inquires, I will be getting it in next week. So much for them calling me when its ready, they only ordered it after my questioning.

Looks like the chord under the hood is now wrapped with silver tinfoil(lol), outside chord is the same. pf number04007-08j11

Try these part numbers:
PK5A4-89J11 is the 400w, 3.3amp block heater with thermal paste.
PK5A4-89J40 is a 2.5meter Home Power Cable. This connects the house plug to the 3-round prong grille connector. Other car manufacturers use this type of cable, so it may be available at parts stores.
PK5A4-89J33 is a 3.0meter Armored Inlet Cable. This has the male connector which mounts on the grille, and runs to the rear of the engine and connects to the block heater.

Learning of this Toyota Canada blocker heater recall was certainly worrisome for us up here in the Great White North. And not just on 4Runners!

The blocker heater kit on my 2011 4Runner was installed back in April 2011 (with only 5 km on the odometer!). When I enter in my VIN to the Toyota Recall and Campaign Lookup my vehicle is not part of the block heater recall.

Part #04007-08j11 is the new 2nd revision updated block heater, description: high temp truck kit. It uses the new 3 pin connector with cap that mounts to the front bumper and 2 adaptors to go from 3pin to 120v plug, 1 adaptor is 1’ long the other is 6’ long. We just had this done at Toyota under the recall for a 2016 Highlander.

OEM block heater and cords

If anybody needs information on how/where to find the, not easy to find, genuine block heater and special cords, let me know. Also, I have a new, outdoor rated, 5 meter cord (the one with the 3 pin female to grounded plug male) that goes from the grill termination plug to your extension cord - - for sale. This cord goes for +/- $54.00. The OEM Toyota heater is better/better quality than an aftermarket Katz or whatever you might find.

question for all you guys that installed these yourselves: did you have to clean out the port where the block heater inserts? I'd imagine it would be filled with dirt/debris. also were you able to install without a lift and removing a tire?
