5th Gen Brake on 2006 Sport Edition

Long story - I had a 1995 4runner that I had put a set of 2016-2017 16" Tacoma wheels and BFG AT KO2's on. I ended up buying a 2006 Sport Edition and since I have the larger brakes they would not fit. So I sold those and knew I needed a 17" wheel. I drove 3.5 hours today to buy a set of 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport wheels which are 17". Get home and I tell my wife I'm going to make sure these fit but they should since they are 17's.. Well as my luck would have it.. They don't fit.. They rub ever so lightly.. The lady I bought the 2006 from just had the front brakes reworked - new rotors and pads. My question would be, can I just swap out to the 5th Gen calipers? Or do I have to swap rotors as well? I never would have thought the inside diameter of the wheel would be so much different on 17" wheels both being Toyota.. I guess another option would be to try spacers but i'd prefer not going that route..

I'd wait for other replies but I'm pretty sure the 5th gen calipers are very similar if.not slightly bigger than the 4th gen sport calipers so I don't know of they would fit. You can get away with the rotors but I'd replace them. The 5th gen rotors are thicker. I'd get different wheels before replacing the brakes.

If anything you need to downgrade your brakes to the SR5 calipers which are smaller. But do you really want get new pads, rotors, and calipers just to use these specific wheels? That being said, I’m surprised that they don’t fit. Are you sure everything is done correctly, or that your calipers are OEM?

I'm at a loss, at lunch today I thought maybe the rotors could be off as I'd only checked the passenger side. So I tried to mount one on the driver side and same issue.. The wheel will fully mount, but it is touch the top and bottom of the caliper. I can confirm the calipers are OEM for a Sport.. The original 4runner 17" wheels that are on it have 1/4 to 1/2" spacing at the top and bottom..

Guess I could always get the grinder out and shave ever so lightly to get just a hair of clearance.. Or buy another set of wheels or powder coat the factory wheels. They are not terrible but just have a few little spots where the "clear coat" is peeling or nicked.

Just space the 17" wheels out that should take care of your rubbing on the caliper issue.

"Tacoma sport" and "4runner sport" are different calipers, why a tacoma sport wheel is rubbing on your 4runner. Either grind caliper/wheel or get better offset wheels.

Tacoma sports use the same caliper as non-sport tacoma's, they don't upgrade the caliper on that model...
