5th Gen Calipers

I’m still rolling with those centric parts from the first post of thread! Not seized yet….knock on wood lol
Respect! Well done. Appreciated your advice on the rear pads. Wish I remembered to separate the rotor sizes, felt the dreaded parking brake clicking because I used 5th gen rotors on my 4th gen. The power stop kit from rock auto has a different center hole diameter on the rotor vs the hub bore.

Got the correct 4th gen rotors now but wanted to make sure I could still use the 5th gen rear pads as part of my kit and the answer is yes thanks to everyone’s info.
 
Well I had a weird one today

Did the full centric 5th gen change. Everything was going well until I went to bleed the fronts…

Passenger side did ok, but the pedal felt mushy still.
Then the driver side… and I got brake fluid leaking from the seam, as well as from inside the caliper.

Needless to say I’m annoyed
Plus with the long weekend, most places are closed/out of stock

Sigh

Centric Caliper quality went to shit when they moved the rebuilding plant to Mexico a few years ago.

The OP has new calipers, not reman (even though they were sold as reman) which is probably why they still work.

Split that caliper in half....they either forgot to put in the crossover seal or they pinched it.

If you need to get down the road, any auto parts store should have a set of any toyota 4 piston calipers in stock...doesn't matter which, they all use the same crossover seal. If you can't save the one you have and put it back in place...go grab another caliper....whatever you can get your hands on tomorrow (any year 4 runner) and steal the crossover seal out of that one to fix yours.

Send me a PM and I'll mail you a seal to fix the caliper and return it.

I see there are 2 sizes of front rotors for kits, 319mm and 338mm. I don't want to flip a coin and buy the wrong kit. If someone can recommend a kit, that would be much appreciated.

Only you can confirm which size rotor/brakes you have on the front, the rears are all the same, you need to either get the casting numbers off the calipers and or measure your rotors with a tape measure which I think is the easiest way to tell which size you have.

The 319mm rotors will measure a little bit over 12 1/2", the 338mm rotors will measure a little under 13 1/2", so it should be rather easy to tell the difference with a tape measure.

Hose Leak at rear caliper

Hey all, new to the thread and thanks for all the resources here. Had my 4th gen 4.7L since 07. Only owner.

Need some quick help if anyone has time. I'm in the middle of this upgrade and have a leak at my rear caliper where the hose attaches.

When you guys did this upgrade did you use your old bolt on the caliper or the new one that came with the 5th gen calipers.

After looking at them closely the 5th gen hole in the bolt is larger than the 4th gen bolt. It is also longer.

Again, experiencing a leak where the hose attaches to the rear caliper.

I have the same leak after attempting to use both bolts.

Are Lexus parts the same?

Kind of reviving an old thread here, but is anyone aware if the Lexus GX brake parts are the same as the 4Runner? Using SCY7H3's post as a key, it seems like all the partnumbers are lining up 1:1 on the GX as the 4R. The 5th Gen Front caliper part number for example:

The kicker: my local Lexus dealership's part prices are 10-20% lower than Toyota (same dealership group), so hoping it works. Now have decide to go with the GX470 (4th-gen) semi-metallic pads or just go ceramic Akebono to save some money.

GX shares the same suspension / frame amongst other parts with the 4runner. So if the part numbers match up, it should work just fine. I swapped all my stuff over to my FJ cruiser with no issues and thats just the same stuff with a shortened frame.
 
14WB castings

Lost my old account to t4r somehow, but I did this swap two years ago with some cardone parts (Napa).

They went bad after 6 months and the replacement Cardones went bad after 2 days.

I thought about trying Centric but I decided to get OEM Toyota calipers since they have the best chance at being a quality part. $165 a caliper later, I opened the box to find that the new OEM parts have casting 14WB on them instead of 14WA.

At first I thought they’d given me 2016+ brakes, which are historically the 14WB parts, but these fit up fine and are identical in bolt spacing and clearance holes to the 14WA calipers that I took off.

TLDR - Toyota has moved the casting code for new 5th gen front calipers to 14WB. 14WA will always fit 4th gen, 14WB requires you to measure the clearance on the bolt hole (should be ~12.2-12.5mm) to see if they are the correct one for 4th gen or not.
 
Can someone enlighten me on the fact if the entire discussion around 12 or 14mm bolt heads which simply refers to M12 and M14 which means;

M12- 19mm hex head
M14 - 21mm hex head

Or does 12mm / 14mm refer to some sort of length?
