5th gen ECU programmable (fog light Always on)??

As winter is approaching its time to upgrade the lights on the 5th gen nightshade.


While talking to Headlight Revolution about bulb options they made the suggestion to ask the experts if there is a potential ECU programmable feature to leave the fog lights on when going to hi beam...

Yes i can rewire but if there is a cleaner PMC mode/option I would want to go that route.


On some other vehicles where the low beam turns off when going to hi beam there is an option to program ECUs to leave power on to the fog lights..
AKA there are not more then 4 lights on at any given time ( legal restriction).


Does anyone know if our ecus even have an option for this programmable feature?

If so any software out there that will allow me to program this option to be on???

If you don't mind me asking, what advantage is there to having both on at the same time?
Having the fogs on all the time would limit the usefulness of the high beams since your eyes adjust to bright directly in front of the vehicle, thus limiting the distance to see further down the road. This is the whole premise for the fogs turning off when switching to the high beams.

For me, I'm interested in adding something like the Baja Designs SAE LED foglight replacements, which from all reports are more like an aux light than a foglight, and I'd like to be able to run them with the high beams in rural locations where deer in the ditches are a concern, and retain the factory switch.

I think it is even simpler than antmans thread after looking at the electrical schismatic for the 2019.

for one that does not need/want independent fogs even if HL are off ..

Actually them switching off is more of a Legal DOT rule on no more than 4 light pods on at any given time.

I am an old school Autox/road racer/DE driver.... so having as many lights on as possible does not effect my driver focus...

I am still able to focus on distance with hi beams but continue to use "peripheral vision" to continue to see directly in front of the truck.

As far as ECU programming, I seriously doubt it's more than a relay and wouldn't be something programmable. Now you've got me thinking though.
If the fog lights are only enabled by the low beam switch, there's probably positive lead running to a relay somewhere. If you could wire this to batt(+) or IgnOn instead of the low beam circuit, then you'd have the ability to run fog any time instead of all the time. I'm pretty sure Antman looked into some of this, and think he said it's buried in the ECU somewhere in the dashboard. I wouldn't mind looking for diagrams, but am guessing it's probably a relay internal to whichever ECU it's part of. Which is why Antman chose to add his own relay instead.
