5'th gen: glovebox removal

G'day gents,

I need to make a few changes to the wiring in my truck (2012) but will need access to a relay located on the passenger side, behind the glovebox; started digging in there but it seemed more involved than the time would allow so I decided to look it up on-line. In one post I read that you need to remove the dashboard, starting at the driverside... ARE YOU KIDDING??! Has anyone here ever done this, or do you know of an 'easy way' of removing the glovebox; One mechanic on-line advised that there is not. Appreciate your help.

Definitely DO NOT have to remove dashboard! It's been a long time since I took mine out but I think you're going to need to unbolt the knee air bag to get to some bolts behind it, and possibly some parts of the center console and passenger side kick panel? I simply followed the steps in the FSM you can find in the sticky and it was not too difficult at all

One thing I do remember is...get a small box or something handy so you can just unbolt the air bag and rest it on the box (so you can keep the wires connected). I didn't want to mess with unhooking the connector because it's a pain in the butt and requires patience to get it to unclip. If you don't prop it up, there's not enough slack in the wire and the air bag would just dangle, which is probably not the best thing to do, lol.

EDIT: there's a few screws inside the glove box too hiding behind small access doors, other than that, it's held into the dash by clips, so once all the screws are out, you just have to pull it straight towards you to release the clips. Make sure to go straight, because I didn't and tore off one clip in the corner :tape:

Maybe I'll just remove the 'firewall' to gain access instead LOL! Thanks for your input. Perhaps I can find another way to manipulate those wires w/o physically accessing the rlys; don't really enjoy fooling with the srs, especially with the luck I've had lately, Chow

Auto start install

Recently purchased a "plug-n-play" remote starter for a 2022 SR5. All was going smoothly until the last step "..which plugs in behind the glove compartment..." and then I cried myself to sleep. Have you, or anyone you know made any discovery on an easier way then to take half the car apart? or does anyone you know have pencil thin hands that can do it for me?
