Well at 9 years the 5th gen is getting long in the tooth. Anyone heard anything about a possible 6th gen? I have a 2016 TEP and my dealer usually calls me about 2 years in asking to buy my 4Runner and put me another one, that’s what happened with my 2014 TEP at least and why I’m in a 2016. February will be two years with this one and I’m looking to try and swing a TRD Pro at the minimum a TRD Premium which has apparently replaced the trail premium.

It's pure speculation at this point. I found this to be the most helpful in looking forward 2020 Toyota 4Runner Rumors, News, Release, Price, Engine but like I said...nobody really knows.

I can tell you that I have a 2018 TRD Off-Road Premium and it is a sexy machine. I had a gen 4 before this one but have test driven 5th gens in SR5, Trail, Limited & TRD Pro. I fell in love with the ORP and had to have one.
 
I have an old 2013 built in Sept. of 2012. It's still doing everything very well, no signs of aging, unlike me. I don't see a need to trade up.

Spending the extra $$$ on trips and family instead.
 
We have a 17' TRD Offroad Premium. Thinking about adding a second 4Runner to the house. Looking at pricing it's a little crazy. Some dealers charge more for used than others new inventory. Would like to have Toyota Safety Sense. Do not want Start/Stop from the Highlander.

The other problem is any update would likely lower the reliability for the first year.
 
These trucks are crazy, they retain a ton of value and are smart buys for sure.

I have bought 3 brand new Toyotas from this dealer, I’m going to try and swing a TRD Pro... but if I can’t I’ll “settle”for a trd off road premium which is the equivalent to my trail premium.
 
In my latest issue of either 4wheel and off road or Fourwheeling magazine they were interviewing one of the big shots at Toyota and he said they were working on the new 4runner as we speak. No dates were given.
 
Had my 2012 SR5 since new and no issues at all. Love it's solid reliability. Unless it suddenly becomes a money pit I plan on keeping it for the long haul. The new ones do look nice but I like my rig.

My local dealers are periodically trying to get me to trade in my 2010. They"need" used vehicles like mine. :wink2: Although Toyota has surely been working on the 6th ten design, when it will be released in light of records sales of the 5th gens is anyone's guess.

Just talked to the GM at my dealer today and all he knows is they will continue the line and he expects a refresh soon. So basically nothing new! I wish we had seen a test mule or something. Weird.
 
Very interested to see what the 6th Gen looks like when it does eventually come out, won't ever buy a first year production though (the Tacoma's I've read have had all sorts of nightmare's on the 3rd gen and they still haven't smoothed out all of them yet)
 
Remember about 1-2 years ago the rumor was the 4runner would be discontinued?

Every dealership in my area was floating that rumor as well as a lot of places in the interweb.

Bottom line is you can't believe a damn thing until you see it in person.
 
8th year of 5th generation is a plus

The good thing about the 4Runner not changing much in 8 years, with lots of 4Runners on the road today is:
there are lots of aftermarket products available that fit most or all of the 5th gen,
There will always be used parts available when you need them many years from now
and
Repair parts from Toyota and others will be available for many years to come

If you buy an obscure, one-year model then good luck getting parts for it later.

I like the simple, easy to fix systems, options and accessories on the T4R. They're not complicated, hard or expensive to maintain like a Land Rover or Jeep Grand Cherokee.

See the Toyota RAV4 compared with its rivals in the

Rav4 sell more in less than 2 months than a 4runner in a year. Camry is not far behind the Rav4. Highlander is also very high in sales.

For the average urbanite who doesn't drive offroad the Rav4 and Camry are better choices. They're more fuel efficient and easier to drive in traffic. The Highlander is a better family car for the urbanite too.
If you want play in the dirt, mud and snow or get to remote off road places, buy the T4R.

I did not mean to say that a Rav4 could replace a 4runner. Just stating that if sales are not high enough to make it worth while for Toyota to produce it will be discontinued. Any make of SUV's are hot right now and gas prices are still low. All of that can change very quickly.

what's a "4.B gen"?

the 5th Gen debuted at the Texas State Fair in September 2009 and was available ~a month or so thereafter.
 
Technically MY 2018 is the 9th year of the 5th gen. 5th gen is 9 years old and not 8. It will be interesting to see if the 4Runner will be all new in 2019 or 2020. If a new 4Runner was going to be ready by MY 2019, i would think there would already be test mules caught driving around or more rumors/buzz from more mainstream reliable sources? I am very happy with my 2018 so far, but like everyone else i have things i wish had been updated. Mainly lights, HP/TQ, Gas Mileage, Nav/Stereo. Either way the 4Runner is already as is a great truck.
