5th Gen Reverse Aux Lights

Hey all:

I've searched a good amount but I am also a electrical novice, so maybe the information I'm seeing I am simply unable to digest.

I currently have a relay/wiring harness ran from the battery to the rear of the vehicle to power two reverse-facing auxilary lights.

I purchased the wiring harness with a wireless remote. They work totally fine and are able to strobe, etc. but I want one more component for them: I would like for these to automatically come on when the vehicle is in Reverse.

Can someone please help me? I do apologize for asking the question in a different way but the diagrams I have seen are on Photobucket and they are blurry in all of the threads.

can you turn them on and off with a physical switch, or do you have to use the wireless remote?

you can trigger a relay with the existing reverse lights, but that only works if you can turn them on and off without using the wireless remote

You've already got a power source run from the battery, and it sounds like the lights are controlled through a module (and wireless remote). Before you do this ensure the power module is supplying a 12v current to the lights.

I'd splice into the Batt+ somewhere before the control module, and wire it through a relay to the +Feed PAST the control module directly into the lights. To control the relay can splice into the reverse light wire, or the reverse switch in the center console shifter. This will retain the wireless control module & add another power source around the power module which will let you use the remote and automatically activate when you shift to reverse.

I do have the option to turn it on and off with a physical switch, yes.

So both options: wireless and switched.

I tapped the trailer hitch wires, has 12 vt source, reverse trigger and bam, run couple wires up into taillight section, put in 2 relays, run to 2 dash switches, one is on with reverse or just off, other is 12vt hot to repel tailgaters. Meso is supposed to release an on/off/ auto switch that would allow use of one switch, till then I made do

The additional relay is the one you'd want to use the reverse light circuit or reverse switch on the shifter to toggle. This will circumvent (but not disable) the wireless remote and on/off toggle of the existing harness.
Looks like that's for 12v so should be putting out 12v power to the lights.

Just as a side note. Take the time to make sure you want them on when in reverse.
I have 2 Extreme LED floods in my rear bumper that are switched independently and when I tried to use them to help when backing up, the rear camera auto adjusts to the additional light and it was actually harder to see details in the screen.
I have found them great for camping and exterior lighting, but all but useless when in reverse.
The only time they actually help is when I need to see behind me using the side mirrors.
Just a though, not even an ounce of criticism.

If you want to keep it simple add-a-circuit to the Towing-BKUP fuse (footwell box) and attach that wire to post 85 or 86 (whichever is NOT connected to battery -) of the kit relay.

It was not taken as criticism I assure you. Thank you for your thoughts!! Oddly enough my camera seems to like the extra output.. I do live in rural KY though and there is essentially no light at night near my home.
