I ran into a similar situation with my 350Z. When I first bought it back in 2004 I was worried about insurance, but it ended up being less than my other cars. My theory is that since it was a new vehicle and the model as a whole had no crash history, some default level of cost was applied. One of the factors insurance companies use when determining premium cost is the general crash history for that model of vehicle. A new model has no crash history, so maybe they apply some default low value until a crash history starts to get compiled.
