5th Gen RR Racing Big Brake Kit $1200 - Upgrade for 4th Gen Front brakes

I saw this buried in the 5th gen brake upgrade thread, and thought it deserved its own thread.

From their site:

After experiencing repeated caliper piston seizure on our shop Lexus GX470, we designed a new brake kit to improve brake performance and reliability. Unfortunately, the original calipers are notorious for experiencing piston seizure due to the fact that caliper is made from cast iron and the pistons are made from steel – materials that easily corrode. Rather than replace with remanufactured auto store calipers (which will typically fail within a year), or expensive new calipers from the dealer, owners of Lexus GX and Toyota 4Runners now have the option of upgrading to our new 6 piston performance brakes.

They state that it uses forged aluminum caliper bodies with six stainless steel pistons, and that this setup is more reliable than the stock setup.

I haven't checked my upgraded 5th gen calipers to see if anything has seized, but if I do find a failure, I'll probably give these a try.

Unfortunately, it seems that they only make a kit for the front calipers, so I'll still have to keep the stock 5th gen (or centric or other brand rebuilds) for the rear.

If your 4th gen with accept 5th gen front brakes (in general, I think that means that you have 17" or larger rims), then it should also be able to
accept this big brake kit as an upgrade.

Heh....I'll have to look into this when it's time to do front brakes. My 4R is heavy with all the armor and drawer system. Problem is, with a 6 piston up front and no upgrade in the rear you'll have a LOT of front brake bias. Not as big an issue if you aren't doing track events which I'm sure all of us probably are not doing in our 4R's.

If I saw this before doing my both my front calipers, pads, rotors, and SS braided lines last year, I would have probably bought this... looks nice.

I have this kit sitting in my garage along with Crown SS brake lines, will be installing everything once I finish moving (hopefully this weekend). I'll make sure to post pics and a review

Great. Thanks! Let us know if you're V6/V8, Sport/Non-Sport (caliper size), pedal feel, ease of install (should be easy), etc. I'm curious about these for sure.

I purchased 4th-gen Centric rotors, coated 5th-gen Centric calipers, and some Akebono pads for the rear.

Was about $1500 for the Wilwood calipers, pads, and DBA rotors in the front.

Got brake lines from Crown for $150

Got everything else off Rockauto, around $300 after core return for calipers, pads, rotors.

Ended up having to replace my wheel bearings in the front, and I've been working like 80+ hrs/week right now, but here is a sneak peek of them installed (ignore the dirty rotors, I wiped them down later):

I'll do a writeup once I finish the rears and bed in the pads.
