If I had the money for a 5th gen, I'd have the money to SAS.

I have the 5th gen and the money (actually, I own more than 80% of the parts already for when I was planning on doing my 4th gen), but I also have a power-train warranty on both my 5th gens that I cannot throw out the window just yet.
The wife is hounding me about a new Highlander, so perhaps when she gets it I will consider going under the knife.

I've had daydreams about getting ahold of a Highlander or Rav4 and SASing both ends. I think a little V6 Rav or early Highlander with solid axles front and rear would be a kick in the pants.
if i bought the wife a new highlander and even made a sound about modding it, she would set my other trucks on fire...lol
I had dreams of taking her AWD RX and making it a little more "off-road friendly" (think baja)..... But she is about as good with a gun as I am, so i left it alone....
I need a Rav4 to turn into a modern Toyota Blizzard.

Imagine what the service writer that snitched would say if you showed up with a SAS'ed 5th gen for service. He'll probably ship your whole truck to Toyota headquarters as proof of voiding the warranty, lol.

It actually doesn't look that bad. A bit of trimming for 33s, I bet it'd make a hell of a overlander.

I've been talking to my local Toyota wizard about it for a long time now. I was offered a discounted set of Dynatrac Prorock 60 with 4.88s a few months ago, but ended up spending part of that money on my 2 wheel project.
Now that I think about it, I'll probably just stick with IFS and ARB lock the front and rear. I already get through a ton of stuff open open, lockers are on my to do list next.

I would say that it wouldn't be significantly harder than SAS'ing a 4th gen or FJ Cruiser; there's a few examples of those vehicles on the T4R.org and Toyota120 Forums (CrozHawk is one that comes to mind). The only real issue you might run into that you might not have on a 4th gen is bypassing the KDSS, but everything else should be similar enough.
The J150 frame/platform that the 5th gens are underpinned by is very similar, if not nearly identical to the J120 that underpins the 4th gens (additionally the FJ Cruisers used the J120 derived frame from '07~09 and then went to J150 '10~14")
It just comes down to money and time really...

With labor? Likely in the 15-20K range. And you'll lose your ABS system.
