5th gen springs on 5100s

Evening all,

Been gone for a number of years but recently got back into a 3rd gen. Picked up a set of 5th gen springs to use all around with 4Runner specific 5100s up front. Got the backs in without any trouble but when assembling the fronts it looks like the fronts will have a ridiculous amount of preload based on the length difference between the stock 5th gen shock and the 5100. Anyone on here ever gone this route and can advise?

I put in 3rd gen 4Runner specific 5100’s with 5th gen springs all around. Rides nice and is comparable to the 99 talls. Hopefully you don’t have 5th gen shocks. Those won’t work.

I also had issues with the 5th gen shocks. Since using them my ride has not been smooth

5th gens are substantially heavier then our 3rd gens, so yes it will have a harsher ride on a stock 4runner.

Both the front and rear 5th gen shocks are too long for a 3rd gen. Use the correct length rear shocks - you are likely bottoming out the shocks and causing a harsh ride, damaging the shocks and mounts at the same time.

The springs are a decent fit/option, though not perfect. (rears are too short ad a bit large diameter on the bottom and the fronts are a bit stiff unless you have added weight)

Hoping someone can chime in w/some help here. I've searched quite a bit but found nothing to give me a solid answer. So I've installed Bilstein 5100's front and rear. fronts set to 2nd perch. these were installed w/5th gen springs all around. found some used sets online. after installation my rig is currently sitting about 1/2" to 3/4" higher on the passenger side. I did add trim packers to the rear so removing passenger side I'm sure will equalize the rear. As for the fronts, I did notice the front springs had different color codes. driver is white/orange and passenger is white/green. what would you guys recommend to try and level front, swap struts side to side? or try and find a matching spring? any help is greatly appreciated!

5th gen rear springs are the same L/R, not sure on the fronts. Its worth a check to swap them L/R - it isn't very hard.
