5th Gen suspension Upgrade

Appreciate any feed back here. I've looked thru pages of threads and haven't really found what I'm looking for.

I currently have a stock TRD PRO 15'. She's a year old with 25K miles already.

My gear consists of:

Full length Eezi Awn K9 Rack,
2.2 Awning,
Part time Eezi Awn RTT.
Rocky Road Sliders
Adventure Trailer Fridge Slide/ Gas Grill with ARB 50 QT Fridge
Let's say 100 lbs of random camping gear.
2UP Bike Rack w/ 2 Mountain Bikes
2 Adults, 2 year old boy, soon to be new baby, 100 lb Malamute.

I'm really tight on room and my wife is the anti new car for another 5 years.

I use the TRD for every weekend adventures, I live high in the Rockies and drive dirt roads just about everywhere I go year round. I have a daily driver for local weekday drives, so the TRD only drives Friday thru Sunday.

On our last big trip to Utah, the truck sagged pretty good in the back, which is no fun on the Kokopelli for 3 days. I'm driving up to ID in a month to get the CBI Rear bumper installed hoping that will create a bit more room (Water & Fuel holder, Trasharoo placement and the use of the built on table instead of lugging our snow peak table around).

Now to my question -

Will the stock Bilstein 5100 shocks be okay if i went with heavier springs? Such as the Toytec TRD upgrade ? Toytec lift kit for TRD Pro 4Runners & 2014 Ultimate Edition FJ Cruisers

or what do you all suggest, whole new set up or what route? ICONS are most likely not in my budget.

I'm not into Rock Crawling, just getting lost in the mountains and surrounding states.

Have you looked into an OME setup? granted they are not coilovers, but they are very durable and made for heavy loads + rough terrain + cheap compare to ICON. I have the 400lb constant springs and with 5 adults + gear for camping + trailer I had 0 sagging (I didn't have the rear bumper on that trip).

You just need springs and you can mix and match. The rear springs I would use are these: Icon Overland
They are Icon but are reasonable. I would put the Toytech/Eibach coils and skip the spacers up front. This will only be slightly more than what you originally planned and will really improve your ride.

Alternatively if you just want to reduce sag and don't need anymore lift just get airbags for the rear. They are a very good and economical solution.

Same setup for me when the new one comes in...750$ from 4wheelparts for all four corners.

The single BEST mod you can do is the Airlift 1000 bags, period. Lots of install info here.

Still debating but on my list is the Icon Overland, Toytec HD and OME 895E.
I like how my SAW is without any weight but with all the camping gears and add-on's. I found very little info on the above mentioned, but those are the options

From the Regional ARB guy Eric...

2885 x 1 front coils (medium rated coils) perfect for the winch and winch plate
90010 x 2 front struts

2889 x 1 rear coils (medium rated coils will still handle the weight of the trailer and drawers well. Use 2898 if you need 440 constant lbs or more of load in the rear with drawers and trailer. Either coil will work well. It really depends on how much you use the trailer.

I am still super torn on what to do when the time comes on mine :redbrick:

I don't go crazy with gear or loading it up, or trailering etc.... So I just would want a slightly stiffer rear coil that would allow me to maybe bump up the height a tad. Then would be looking for a decent front option to acheive approx 2" lift and stiffen things up a bit to get rid of this nose diving monster.

The idea of 6112's front and 5160's rear seemed interesting. Still no clue on the rear spring. Or if I'm even totally missing something else I should be looking at ha. I want to do it once and right.

It's still truck like. definitively harder than stock, but less harsh than a stock Tacoma with no loads. Keep in mind, I have E rated tires so it doesn't help much either.

The springs will get you a couple inches the air bags may lift the rear a little depending on how you set them but not much. I'm not sure how much lift the Pro starts out with but on most stock setup this is a 2 in lift upfront and with a bumper like your thinking prob a 2.5 in lift in the rear.

sounds right...put in the airbags as cheap insurance, that way if you throw a couple of hundred pounds of gear and tongue weight, it's all covered.

Think it makes a difference that I have 3rd row seats? Should I factor that into the constant weight measurement?
Seats, in my experience, are usually pretty heavy. Don't know if it's relevant though

I am running a similar setup as you as far as bolt-on's and cargo. We went with the medium springs front and rear, and the ride quality improvement was DRAMATIC. The stock TRD setup starts getting mushy real quick when you ad more than a couple of hundred pounds to the vehicle. The OME setup handles the extra weight so much more gracefully, and improves the stability and handling characteristics of the vehicle. Another plus is you will not have to do maintenance on OME shocks as with some other setups.

Looks really good, I wish I got the black TRD. So I already made a purchase via Toytech here in Colorado - I went with the below link but we swapped out the springs shown for the Icon overland springs. As soon as CBI can get me in for the bumper I'll post a photo of the whole set up. Toytec lift kit for TRD Pro 4Runners & 2014 Ultimate Edition FJ Cruisers
