5th Gen Trade in Values....

The only number that matters is the difference. Not trade in, not out the door, the difference between the two is what you will pay.

we are saying the same thing, but it's not always just the net cost. If you finance (and that's almost always a terrible idea), you have to factor those costs as well.

This would be great, but I will believe it when I see it. They would lose out on a lot of money from unprepared buyers if they can't monkey with the numbers.

It is heading that way. Too much competition from buying services, CU Direct, etc... from people who don't want to waste time with the b.s. haggling crap.

AutoNation is shifting to an online storefront with no-haggle pricing - LA Times

I bought my TE at Autonation and it was a simple premise:

Here is the sticker, here is our Autonation discount and here is Toyota's 4Runner 30 year anniversary discount. Price is $XXX and not negotiable. They did negotiate on my trade. Lowball offer first, I countered one time and said "Here is my number (which was very fair) accept it or I'll head out the door."

They accepted it.

For what it's worth, I've always felt like I got a better deal by negotiating. I tend to be in a decent position and am of the mindset that the "new" vehicle isn't a need, only a want. If they're having a slow day and throw me a sweet offer, I'll buy. The one price situation isn't my favorite model because of this.

I bought the 4runner at Autonation and they negotiated the trade as well as $3k off MSRP. I felt good with it.
