5th Gen VVT Noise?

Has anyone experienced noise from their "VVT gear"?
I started hearing a Clicking/Tapping/Rattling noise a few weeks ago. Last week, when took my 2015 in for 20k mile service I asked them to check it out. A tech stood with me and confirmed that he heard the noise too.

Later in the day they told me all the steps they took to diagnose the issue and ultimately determined that it's the "VVT gear" and the noise can be considered normal.

Normal. Over the years there have been whiners, complainers, and polls and possible problems and so forth. Bottom line is it is normal. There is a Toyota engineer who posts here periodically and he had the best explanation, but but just enjoy the diesel clatter. Bask in it's glory, even though it's not diesel.
