5th Gen winch mount

I just called and left a message this morning. Hopefully one of us will hear back. I asked them to email photos or install instructions so that I can see how it attaches to the frame. I also asked what kind of testing they had done. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
 
Just got off the phon with Matt Winter of Winter Motorsports and was able to get some additional information. The mount attaches to each frame rail with 5 bolts each. There is then an additional cross member that you add in to increase strength. He did it as a one off for the 4runner pictured and decided that since it turned out so well he would market it.

He said they put it under some heavy stress and everything help up fine. He said they hand't hung it from a tree but he felt really good about it holding up.

Turn-around time is about two weeks from the time you place the order. He is working on getting up additional information. He also said it could be welded for additional strength if desired.
 
I also talked to him last night but have not had time to post about it. I liked what he told me. There is 1/4" plate on each side of the frame horns and as was already mentioned, 5 grade-8 bolts per side. From there he built and reduced to a gusseted/reinforced 3/16" mounting plate that is overly strong where it should be. Thus keeping the weight of the whole mount to just a little more than that of the winch. He also has all his own stamping/cutting equipment and does all fabrication in-house. The only outsource is the powder-coating. He is willing to accommodate modifications per customer request too it seems.

It sounds like he does a lot of custom fab work and is a serious builder of Score class 8 type race trucks.

StuB, sounds like you got about the same info. I have had a very similar setup on my Rover for the past 17 years and it has worked perfectly for my needs and at this point I think this is the way I am going to go. Of course I need to purchase the t4r first.

If lucrum decides to do something in the next month or so then I might go that direction since they have a proven track record with their FJ mount. If anyone pulls the trigger on the Winter mount before me plas post details with photos of how it's mounted etc!
 
5th Gen. 4Runner Winch

I'm the owner of the 5th Gen 4R with the winch that "trentfysty" was showing and asking about earkier this month.

Every offroad parts store I found was willing to sell me a winch for my new Toyota, but they could not find a mount for it. I contacted Winter Motorsports, wintermotorsoprts.com, who had made a set of very nice sliders for the 4runner.

Matt engineered a very capable mount that is an extention of the frame. A major hurdle was the new Toy design of the front end. You can't just take off the bumpers anymore, they are integrated with the side panels. Matt had to design a mount that would extend the frame within the constraints of the new Toyota front end, not an easy task. In additoin to everything else this winch mount is a steel frame that protects all the plastic that Toyota increased on the bumpers of the new 4Runners. Matts engeneering is like art work, perfection as far s I am concerned. I give him an A+ on this winch mount.

It was tested pulling a Jeep up hill for 100'. It did not flex or have any issues with the pull. It was tried again on a resistant load to just about the max. pulling capability of the winch, (a brand new 9500 lb Warn winch). The mount had no problem under this stress.

I am not new to offroading and have been using a winch on my Jeep for the last 15 years. I will soon be taking the new 4Runnner out to the Mohave Desert, Dearth Valley and Arizona and giving it a workout. If there are any problems I will post them here. I do not expect to have any issues with this setup. It was very well constructed not just to look good but to handle any stress the winch can provide.

tr4Mike, great to hear from the actual owner. I am very excited about this mount and have pretty much decided on going with it after talking to both the Winter brothers. Seems like they know their stuff and turn out some quality gear. Have you tried and off axis pull yet? Just wondering how it will handle the stress. Also, what is the weight of the mount once added and what type of modifications, if any, did you do to the front shocks/springs? Looking forward to hearing more from you!!

I haven't heard anything else. I think they were going to do more testing over President's Day weekend. So hopefully we will hear more in a few weeks.
 
I drew this up last week after looking into winch bumper ideas for my 2014 te. I guess its a hybrid of some sort. I love the stock look and think this still adds protection to the front of the truck without adding 150lbs of steel. Planning of making this myself This summer. I need to plan this out really well and get some of your thoughts before I start cutting up my front bumper.

Thoughts?

With all due respect, I for one don't care for the 2014 front end refresh, but somehow your drawing speaks to me. Very impressive. :thumb3:

I like your idea. I've been thinking along the same lines. Something to replace the lower faux skid plate with a real skid plate/bull bar/winch mount. I'd like to leave the rest of the nose alone of possible. I like the way they rounded the lower corners to give good lateral ground clearance and I don't necessarily want a full ARB or Shrockworks type bumper.

I really like the look of the hybrid bumper Toy2G has, but the sides on it just look incomplete to me. No gig on him and it looks completely functional. I just think I'd be happy with just that center section. Especially if it could be tied in fairly seamlessly to replace the 2014 lower center skid plate piece.

Thanks guys. This is just a simple idea that was on my mind for a while. I'm not gonna have a chance to take off my bumper and take a better look till I get in my new garage this summer. I'm renting an apartment right now and my tools are in storage. I know it best in approach angle but its protection and I think compliments the truck.

As for that tube/baja hybrid bumper on toy2g
Top half= TITS
bottom half= something is missing
I don't like seeing through those tubes and looking at all that inner fender stuff. But the way it sits above and out is awesome!
 
I'll go ahead and place my order now, with stinger bare metal. Price shipped to NC? Lol! How about some mounting tabs for a light bar between the stinger?
 
USOffroad.........where are you? This is exactly what this guy was inquiring about producing for 5th gens. He took requests to gain a consensus on what most wanted for features, acquired the schematics for designing the mounts, and now the it looks like the demand for such a product is rising rapidly. If you guys can get a look at the version he made for Tacoma center sections you"d be most impressed. Someone here know this guy, and if I remember he was applying for vendor status with the board
