5vz rebuild need recommendations

hey, i am rebuilding my 5vz with a spare block with maybe around 25k miles on the spare, i am looking for new rings, i do not know what brands or what size rings i need. its a bone stock block, very low miles, never bored out, factory honed. any recommendations?

A couple of questions.

Why do you have a block with 25 k on it?

Why do you need to rebuild a motor with 25k on it?

If you have to ask what size rings you need then you have no business rebuilding a motor.

If you truly have a genuine 25k motor with documentation, it is worth more untouched. Sell it and do some preventative maintenance or buy a supercharger for your existing motor.

the current motor has 235k miles and is cracked, i recently purchased it with motor issues and pulled it out to find the crack. i have a few friends from toyota and he had a spare block a customer refused to use. the spare block had head issues, so they sent back the entire block fixed the head, but the customer insisted to change blocks so my buddy bought his spare.
my main concern is finding a decent brand ring set. i have thought about oem but it is currently backordered for a few months.

i'm am rebuilding it because i want to be sure its not going to fail or eat oil, the block is already out so i want to do things right and rebuild.

If you have to ask what size rings you need then you have no business rebuilding a motor.

A few years ago my cousin rebuilt an engine.

he had never done it before and wasn't even a semi-pro.

he told me could just wing it and go off best practices.

it was a honda. He didn't follow any Honda guidelines, specs ect.

after he had the whole thing put back together, it then started up fine.

he celebrated emotionally, then drove it down the street and suddenly the engine made a horrible sound and then it was dead. I think it threw a rod through the hood.

he finally settled for a full engine swap since that was much easier to accomplish.

I have never rebuilt an automobile engine but I know it isn't something one "just does." I did rebuild a lawnmower engine in shop class about 12 years ago.

If you can take some high quality pics of the bores, it should be easy to determine if the rings are still likely to be good.

Unless there are signs of abnormal wear on the bores, and/or corrosion, the rings are likely fine.
