5vzfe JDM motor full of water

Thanks for all the input guys. I talked to my bank and we are going to try to do a chargeback through the credit card. I also contacted the BBB in New Jersey and dealing with the issue. I'll probably call up the Attorney General in the area as well thanks ill let you know what happens

I think a credit card chargeback will be just fine.

As long as it hasn't been 120 days.
 
[MENTION=122929]SlayTank[/MENTION] Just thought I'd give you an update on this place. I bought another 1996 with a blown head gasket. I visited JDM Engine Depot. They had two 5VZ's in stock. I can see why they are listed as "On Clearance" on their website now. They both looked like total shit. I asked the guy if he could provide compression figures. This shady dude responds by saying that I can do it there if I have the tools. WTF?

Seems like other people have had problems with these guys on Google reviews. Glad you found the problem before installation. How did you initially suspect a problem?

Why didn't they do a compression test and leak down test? If they would have done it, they would have noticed a problem.

I'm interested to hear how this turned out.

Using the Bank/VISA or Paypal and demanding a straight up refund for Credit Card Fraud (via a fraudulent sale) is BY FAR the best bet in my opinion.

The Bank/VISA has substantial power and could possibly refund you completely if you can show proof of the fraudulent sale or at least a sale that doesn't meet the Bank/VISA's standards. Say the bank refunds you, next they will go after the seller and demand reimbursement and they will use the leverage of their business contract to get it.

If the Bank/VISA were to get too many fraud complaints about a particular seller they may consider terminating business with them. This would be a huge blow to any business and usually independent companies work with the bank to make them happy.

That is kind of the best case scenario for you. As far as contacting the DA goes I say go for it! But I wouldn't expect any kind of quick action. The seller probably has some legal clause that Fs you over and protects them.
 
Sorry for your problems. My friend just bought a 1jz again for his other project. Old school BMW. And the motor is fresh. I guess the big difference is, we are able to drive down to the house and pick one out. By hand and eyes.

When I got my 5vzfe from them, I went there to NJ Clifton, and they had about 20 of them sitting. I didn't even bother looking at the timing.belt sticker. I just picked the cleanest looking one.

There's a guy on 4runner Facebook page and he also just got one from them. So for so good.

So it feels like they are taking advantage of people who order through online and ship shity motors. That's bullshit. !!!!

Hope the bank or PayPal takes care of this !!

You went to JDM Engine Zone. OP is dealing with JDM Engine Depot in Belleville. They are both totally different so try not to confuse them since you had a great experience with one.

IMO, while JDMED should have checked the engine before shipping out a dud, OP shouldn't have removed the head since it states that doing so will void the warranty. JMO. Either way, these guys shouldn't be shipping out these "tsunami" engines.

JDM EZ always has engines on CL N.NJ.
 
Just visited JDM Engine Zone in Clifton. The difference was night and day. None of these guys had a shady attitude and ALL engines had tags with compression numbers on them. The engines looked way cleaner too.

I think it's clear to see who I'm buying my engine from.

My apologies. I don't know why but I had the JDM engine depot stuck in my head.

Yes I got my motor from JDM EZ FROM Clifton. And had nothing but good experience plus my friend did to. I paid $1500 cash.
 
Come to think of. No wonder the guy of 4runner Facebook page paid $800, I believe he said he got his from engine depot. But he hasn't had any problems so far.


I highly recommend JDM ENGINE ZONE IN NJ CLIFTON. Its where I got my motor and its where two of my friends get their 1jz.

Price has gone down to $1000 since then. The engines there all looked great. They had a few Toyota and Mitsu diesels around too. He told me that the few 1KZs and 1KDs he gets go fast. The 5VZ is definitely a top seller, though. I would edit your original post so that anyone reading this in the future avoids any confusion.

Received the motor from JDM Engine Zone a few days back. Man, this thing is clean inside AND out, and they didn't even wash it. My mechanic is saying it looks like it has 20k on it, but who really knows. Time will tell but it should be awesome once running.
 
WHOA Fellas Time warp. I got a update...

I went through Visa since I paid with a Visa card and issued a chargeback. This charge back code falls under Code 53: Condition 3 : The merchandise received by the Cardholder was damaged or defective. A chargeback is a service that helps protect the customer from the likes of JDM Engine Depot. I first went to my bank and and did some paperwork, I found out everything I had to do from Visa's rules and regulations by googling it. I did a lot of writing and back and forth with a 3rd party credit card company that handles disputes. After months of fighting I got ALL my money back including shipping.

If anyone who finds this and are having problems with these dishonorable people and want to put in the work you could get your money back! Here is Visa's rules: https://usa.visa.com/support/small-business/dispute-resolution.html
If JDM Engine Depot gets enough Disputes Visa will cut them off of using the Visa system.

P.S. The people on this forum are real cool, Thanks guys. I've been over on MarlinCrawler just when I have time(which has been real short supply lately) But I'll have to show up here more. Again thanks and hope this helps someone in the future.
 
Good to hear. Honestly that place had a sketchy vibe from the moment I walked in. I got out before the guy could ask me anymore smartass questions.
 
Just checked this thread again - thought it might be good to bump it as well.

Glad to hear it all worked out in the end.

And yes I have had to file chargeback claims as well in the past.
