5w-20 OK??

So I'm due for an oil change and I have 5 quarts of 5w-20 just sitting on a shelf in my garage from when I had my civic. I know the 4Runner is recommended either 5w-30 or 10w-30 but I'm wondering, will 5w-20 be ok for one oil change? If not its not big deal Id just rather it not go to waste.

I like to go with the factory recommended viscosity only, but I think that Toyota approved 5w-20 for its engines (you should verify this).
I would give away the 5w20 to a buddy, put 5w-30 in there. Just my $0.02.

I am a fan of 5w30 for my 4Runner, or 10w30 (in my Sentra). 5w20 probably won't hurt, but I would save it for use during the winter months.

Unless you live in Upstate NY or Minnesota, 5w30 should still be adequate for the colder months. 5w20 will help with cold starts, but might be too thin for some engines during the summer months.

Then again, I use Mobil-1 synthetic -- so any viscosity would still be better than plain mineral oil.

Don't, but if you must- at least use in the winter. Low temp range of 5 is same as in 5w30

I just went to doublecheck it :runaway: ....and on Pg 448 of my owners manual it definitely recommends 5W30. Is my manual wrong...? Enlighten me!

Maybe on 2005 V8, but on V6 it's 5w30. But more importanly, trd_4runnin has 3rd generation that also recomends 5w30 or 10w30. Just my $0.02 :

5w20 weight oil is used for fuel economy reasons. Use the viscosity recommended and certified for your model and year vehicle.
