6" lift is taking off in Hawaii

Ha! See I kinda dig the different style with a huge lift like that. Not something I would do but still its different and kinda cool.

I like looking at them too! I think they are cool for that. Other than [MENTION=118321]Jetboy[/MENTION] broad side washing down river reason then I think unfortunately looks are the only other advantage.

There is another benefit to the extra lift. More belly room to work with while your under it.

Hawaii Is an amazing place. I went to the big island, and as Lawn Dart said, I couldn't believe the amount of tacomas. Jacked right up, with little wide tires. It was cool to see, because there was serious work in to these rigs. They were shiny and tidy. As a suspension-whore, It was nice for rubbernecking. We saw quite a few of them on the way to Hilo from Kona.

It's a regional thing, and I get that. I would have loved another 6" height on the rented Yukon I had if only to see more scenery over the guardrails on those windy roads against the ocean.

Fwiw, here's the scenario I could see the bracket lift having some utility. If you spend time in deep water. This stream crossing made me very concerned. This is the down-river side where I opened the door. Once the swift water area hits the broad side of the vehicle it's hard to keep it from sweeping down stream. Getting the body and frame 6 inches higher could have made a big difference. And this is nice clean fresh water. Dirty muddy tropical water over the floorboards means a lot of cleanup.

Where was this? I'll probably have to wait 10 months, during low water, but I'm interested!

I did as you suggested and read all your posts here http://www.toyota-4runner.org/search.php?searchid=4502756 and the thing you mentioned most was function and form. You mentioned mud and water and sand but lifting it higher does not add ground clearance.

Let me ask in a different way: Why do a bracket lift when you can keep you CG down (we both agree that is better off road) by fitting larger tires on a lower 4Runner? Cost? Aesthetics?

Approach angle, departure angle and break over angle all unaffected by big tire low center of gravity... most of our beach, lava trails have many of these situations... just a little added info... sorry, busy day on the ambulance today!

As an aside I'm not seeing a ton of 4runners here in Hawaii, but holy Jesus goddamn Christ there's more Tacomas then I've ever seen in my life. Amazing.

Also while I'd love to have my 4Runner out here it's pretty apparent the climate and salt water in the air eats vehicles for lunch.

Tacos are a dime a dozen, for sure!

that picture doesn't show anything other than the driver's lack of skill and decision making. Choosing a CORRECT line is far more beneficial than a drop bracket lift

In a 4runner with a 3" lift and 33" tires, the correct line for that obstacle is to go around. lol

Runner with green rims has a 12" and the rest has 6" lifts... 12" runner was a SEMA... All 6" lifts have operational 4WD...

Hi kona. Did you do the lifts yourself? Buying a 2016 and want to set up some but want to know of any issues etc. Appreciate it.
