6 months and counting, still no solution.

Hey everyone, it's been a while since my last post. What's up :surfer:

Well I began hearing this really bad cracking noise coming from my front suspension about 6 months ago. It hasn't gotten better, or worse, but it is irritating and I need to figure out whats wrong with it. Sound is coming front front left wheel. Sounds like a popping sound. Shocks, springs, CV boots, and sway bar links are all new. What else could this potentially be?

Could be any number of things control arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, cv joint, wheel bearing even idler arm. Turning plate on top of coil spring,coil spring not seat in perch properly. Brake calapier loose. Bushing holding sway bar to frame. Loose or broken steering rack and related parts like steering colomn.
Try to isolate the noise as in what is the suspension doing when popping occurs. This a hard thing to find. Spent months with nissan altima with something simuliar turned out to be bent lower control arm putting bind on strut when at full left and compressed. Odd thing was still spec'd out ok with alignment. So bent control arm wasnt on my radar.

You have 5100's, right? Check the top bushings and see if you can tighten the shock. I had a similar sound and it was due to a faulty bushing that wore through and made the shock loose.

I'll check for those things. I have a new set of UCAs but I don't want to put them in unless I know for sure it's going to fix the issue.

Does it only happen when turning, or when compressed? Could be the sway bar banging against your front coil. Do you have the relocate kit on there?

I noticed on mine, after I put the relocate kit on, I had a popping noise while turning at full lock. Turned out to be the inside edge of the wheel rubbing on the sway bar. Took the relocate kit off, and all is well.

I spoke to the OP about this a few weeks ago over the phone as he's brought his truck to me for service. He said that the problem for him causing the noise wound up being one of the lower control arm cam lobe bolts was loose allowing the lower control arm to move a bit creating the noise. After tightening the bolt the noise went away.

I had a similar sound and it ended up being a bad strut. I think my R strut is going now because the noise is slowly coming back.
