6 speed manual swap?

I've driven the 5 spd that they put in the new Hilux diesels overseas, and it is supreme. Those things will last forever. I cannot speak to the 6 spd though.

That 6-speed is not known to be one of Toyota's legendary transmissions. If you look at the Toyota AU website, it says that the V6 Hilux is available with a 5-speed manual, probably the same one they put behind the diesel. No 6-speed manual stated anywhere.

Just my thoughts, but that Aisin 6-speed manual is known for having issues. Read up about them on Tacoma and FJ forums. I would rather not have that transmission.

Toyota does not even put that 6-speed manual behind 1GR's in the Hilux's that they sell overseas if that says anything.

Yeah... I didn't want to rain on anyone's parade but there seems to be a lot of issues with that particular 6-spd manual, another reason why I wasn't too attached to doing a conversion on the 4Runner. Also the gear ratios seem a bit off in the Tacoma to be honest, maybe it drives better in the 4Runner... but even the new Tacomas feel like the ratios don't match the vehicle/drivetrain like they should, its hard to describe.

The only issue with trying to go "full manual" is going to be dealing with the Hydraboost unit and the ABS module as it relies on switch signals from the 4WD ECU to determine how to adjust sensitivity.



You could I suppose just unplug it all, let the ABS module default with DTCs and disable itself, but I'm not sure if there are hidden safeties installed in the software that would hamper performance.

My ABS has been disabled since 2010

Emelianenkov, I have wanted this for a while, actually almost sold the t4r for a taco last year for this very reason. There was a sweet dark blue '11 in warwick with a bed cap.



It's too bad that there is not a more direct swap.

I almost traded on an FJ but I LOVE my 4R. I WILL be doing this mod! Now it's just a matter of funds and a DD

I agree but hopefully a different gear ratio in the diffs will help!

I loved driving the 6 speed FJ... It's a truck not a sedan. It's geared lower. First gear is short on road, but off road it's BEAUTIFUL
