Ok I'll bite.

1. BOF - Prado and 4runner joins the Hilux platform, forming the big brother to the fortuner.
2. 3.5L V6 with ~300HP, 8 Speed auto, no manual option
3. IFS, solid rear with electronic locker, and KDSS option on higher end lines.
4. SR5, Sport (or new moniker), and limited. Possible even higher line to offset Lexus GX drop... We'll call it platinum for now.
5. 34K Starting tops outs at 55K on the higher side of things

I would say to add

for #2 I would clarify with
- Engine, configuration, size + (hp/tq) estimates
- Transmission (number of gears)
- Diff ratio
- Diff traction aids (mechanical locker, electronic LSD, brake activated traction control...)

Maybe add a bullet for additional luxury features like.
- Blind spot detection
- steering sensitive headlights....

Knowing Toyota, i think the 6th gen will be very predictable (pretty much the new Tacoma as a 4Runner). They don't really care much about this platform IMHO, They see it as a small niche product with no real future (milk it, but don't invest much). They will reach into the parts bin and throw some proven stuff they already have together.... Any R&D would be throwing money away. I also predict this will be the last BOF 4runner produced.

The entire auto industry is at a very strange point right now, the best performance cars and trucks ever produced are hitting the market as we speak (profits are up), but I'm afraid were about to see something like the 1980s happen again as the government regulations become a reality that cannot be ignored much longer.

  1. Body:
    • The 4Runner and Prado will remain BOF but will change over to the IMV (Hilux/Tacoma) platform. Toyota has plenty of room in its NA lineup to satisfy CAFE 25 without converting everything to Unibody. However, this will probably be the last BOF generation.
    • The body will get more aerodynamic.
    • Optional swing-arm spare mount and factory secondary gas tank under cargo area like with the Prado (wish list).
  2. Drivetrain:
    • Stock engine will be the 3.5L V6 from the Taco, tuned for 300hp. Trail and GX versions will have an optional V8.
    • Transmission will be 8-speed auto out of the Landcruiser.
    • Center Torsen Diff with AWD will standard in all 4WD models (wish list).
  3. Suspension:
    • KDSS will be available across all trim levels.
    • They'll open up the wheel wells and relocate the body mount to allow 34's without major surgery (wish list).
    • They'll redesign the front anti-sway bar to allow off-road disco (wish list).
  4. Models:
    • They'll add a new luxury trim level, the GX (possibly Platinum), if they discontinue the Lexus GX. Trim levels will be SR5, Trail, Limited, GX. TRD-Bro will be reintroduced at the mid-gen refresh.
    • All options will be available and interchangeable across all trim level. Third row in a trail, e-locker in a base SR5, etc. (wish list).
  5. Price: 35k for base SR5 up to 55k for GX.

Body: Remains BOF; Toyota will discontinue the 4Runner rather than turn it into another Highlander. Given the sales volume (the 4Runner is beating the Lexus RX this year in US units, if I remember correctly), it shows that there is a place for the 4Runner in the lineup. If the volume drops below a sustainable level, they will end it -- the FJ and the Venza are both examples.

Drivetrain: 3.5L V6 / 6-speed auto

Suspension: No major changes

Models: SR5, Trail, Limited, Platinum (might be an optional package on the Limited, like the Highlander), TRD Pro. Similar to 5th Gen -- very few individual options.

Price: Similar to the outgoing 5th Gen, with more content replacing the ongoing 30th Anniversary/Keeping it Wild discount -- assuming no major foreign exchange shifts

Other: Remains made in Japan. Adds Toyota's new safety package (forward collision prevention, lane departure warning, etc.) as an option on all models. Evolutionary styling changes (like the Tundra in 2014).

Opened wheel wells for larger tire clearance without body modification
3.5l turbo diesel with 8 spd trans option

My guesses
3.5l 6 speed and new turbo 2.0l 4cyl option.
New 8.7"rear diff with internal e locker. That makes the e locker a plug and play for all models.
Same frame and suspension
Kdss on limited and trail models.
Smart key on all models
Wireless charging on all models
Dual climate control on all but base models

Mostly a big facelift. Not all new.

Oem goodyear tires.
 
Thinking mostly cosmetic.
Different V6.
GoPro mount, like in Taco.
I doubt they will go retro.
Still bof.


Bring back the removeable half top and manual transmission, and will get one :-)

Also, 2 door version would be kind of cool, to fill the market for folks that wanted an fj.

Models: SR5, Trail, Limited

Price: Similar to the outgoing 5th Gen, possibly offering an engine "upgrade" option of either a 2.0 turbo or small V8. I highly doubt it will happen but I would love to see a version of their brand new 2.8l I4 turbo diesel. Given that option I would consider trading my 2015 Trail. I still may consider it if they keep the good looks and can improve combined mpg by 4 or more.

Other: Length may get shorter while Toyota improves interior room (I see a few wasted inches in the front grill of the current gen). Interior shifts closer to the highlander/LexusNX/Tacoma with the shifter design and dash layout.

TOYOTA please offer a diesel engine in this model, if for nothing else then to test the market. I bet if they kept the price within $3000 of the base V6 it would have a take rate in excess of 25%. I would put my order in today if they could drop a small to mid size diesel in there that would top 30mpg highway.
