There has to be a story behind it. Toyota-4runner.org looks like is a well-run site. Why would mods leave 6th Gen forum subtitled incorrectly "2019" and cause confusion for the past few years?

Never noticed that. Suggests the subtitles are not on purpose as Jetboy said just typical need of site maintenance.
There is no 6th generation 4Runner -- yet. There have been minor changes such as in the infotainment center, adding adaptive cruise control, lighting, etc.
But the basic mechanicals -- engine, transmission, drive train, brakes, body on frame, suspension, live rear axle, etc. remain the same.
Toyota seems bent on not tampering with a success, thus some things seem out of character, even anachronistic compared to other cars. The 5 speed transmission a case in point.
There are rumors that "next year" will see an "all new" 4Runner with a different engine, many more speed transmission, multi link rear suspension and uni-body; but "next year" never comes.

Last spring there were some screen grabs, 'leaks' for Toyotas upcoming lineup, and it was accurate for the remainder of 2021 (timeline delayed a bit though), and whats increasingly likely for the Tundra re-redesign. Looks like they're going to ditch the V8 for a twin turbo V6, and base on a new TNGA 'F' platform. 4runner supposed to be based on the same 'F' platform.

Do you have any influence to get the subtitles adjusted? Include 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 in the 5th Gen subtitle and maybe something like "Future Next Gen" in the 6th Gen subtitle ?
