Possibly. Biggest January. Lets see if it holds. I know my dad just ordered his second 5th Gen (I'm on my third 5th Gen). Perhaps there are many others like us.

I had a choice of another 4Runner (would be my 3rd 4th gen) or trying something different.
Decided to try something different, but staying in the Toyota family (Highlander Hybrid). I’m looking forward to the 6th gen and will probably be back in a 4Runner in a few years — assuming Toyota doesn’t mess it up.
Looking at the sales numbers and it’s pretty astounding for a vehicle introduced in 2010.
Why so many? Do you drive a lot?
It certainly is a counterpoint to the folks suggesting Toyota is leaving a lot of money on the table by not updating the 4runner. The way it looks to me, they are printing money. Change nothing in over a decade, add tech from other cars to refresh for pennies, and keep charging more and more and its been working for 10 years. I agree with what others are saying as it sure would be nice to see some more modern touches. From Toyota’s view, they’d be losing money by redesigning as they are still reaching their near peak potential market with a vehicle thats a decade old, cheaper to make by the year, and still flying off the lots.
How are you liking the Highlander Hybrid after so many years in 4Runners?
Man, if I have to wait until 2022, I'm in something else. I love my 4th Gen, but it has 225000 on it, think I'm starting to have coolant in the engine routine. I'll get it fixed as I absolutely do not like the lack of power in the 5th Gen. Rented one for a week last year, could not get over the difference in torque between the 4th and 5th. Tried another day with a 5th Gen SR5 last week thinking I might trade mine in. Nope. The way people drive around Chicago, you better have some get up and go or you're gonna get you ass-end hit. I might be able to wait for the 2021 6th Gen, but if it's another year I'll regretfully move to Jeep.Omegle
Go ahead and thank all them lovely "the 4Runner needs to be modern" people I guess?
Yep. That's right, we decided that at our secret meeting last year. And if people keep complaining that the 4R is getting too modern we'll cancel I4 entirely for the mid-cycle refresh and you're getting an EV Only with 200 miles of range.
I honestly would not be entirely opposed to a pure EV SUV, while the unsprung weight of wheel hub motors would be horrendous, you could do some much more interesting styles of suspension and do some interesting things for off-road. It just comes to reliability and serviceability in the field, which EVs have not proven as of yet. Range is also an issue among other things. EVs are inevitable, but outside of major metropolitan areas; it will take a long time for that technology to become reliable and workable enough to be valid out in the booneys without a mobile repair center following you.
Plus in my personal opinion, if you're buying a 4Runner as a city/highway cruiser then you're better off investing in a Highlander, Sienna, or Sequoia at that point; or any other street oriented cruiser with much, much better features and value.
That's why a properly done Hybrid is a good thing, IMO. Toyota has been doing Hybrids for decades now and I trust that they can be made reliable.
Also, most of us agitating that the 4R is 'Too Old' have been wanting a properly tuned transmission with more gears and an improved motor. I'm not looking for a Highway cruiser, but it sure would be nice to get more than 16 MPG when I'm driving the truck down to SW Colorado or anywhere else that's more than an hour or two away. This is not 2012 anymore.
