6x9 speakers in front doors

Hello,

I recently replaced my driver door due to a failed parking brake and a bit of stupidity. I was looking at the door without the panel, and it looked like there would be enough room for a 6x9 speaker (assuming some of the panel was cut away.) Has anyone ever tried this? How bad of an idea is this?

Probably not a bad idea at all. I would be most concerned about the depth of the new speaker. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

You can buy some nice components, an amp and some dynamat and get the same thing as 6x9 w/o hacking your door. Get a jigsaw and close the holes in your door as well.

I have 6x9s in the rear doors.

I don't suggest them for the front doors. Why not just go with compenents. If you do add them, beware of the speaker depth. They might hit against the window arm / glass when you roll down the window.

My suggestion: 6.5" components in the front; 5x8 or 6.5" two ways in the rear.

I have the stock components in the front and stock speakers in the rear doors. I have a pair of 6X9s I was thinking about mounting in the rear cargo area. My old 87 had a roll bar inside and that's where they were mounted. My new 99 doesn't have the roll bar and I need someplace to mount them

i know it’s been many years but do you know how much does the window stick out? do you have a picture? thanks
