$78,555 for a Land Cruiser???!!!

Good pedigree...you can go anywhere in the world and say Land Cruiser, people will know what your talking about even if they don't speak english.
The introduction of IFS has turned me off the late models but they're still nice. Nowadays there basically a Lexus LX570 but 20k cheaper. They do hold their value though, around here high mileage (because you never find low mileage ones) ones from the 90's will sell for over 10k

I used to work in a service industry where I would have to go to customer's houses, mostly the rich and shameless, and the new Landcruiser or more likely the GX or LX 470 would be parked out front for the trophy wife.
When I asked them about certain aspects of their Cruisers, they were more than often more Clueless than Alicia Silverstone, with few if any knowing they had 4wd or how to work it. The most often response to why they bought one: " The Jones or Smiths down the road have one, so we got one". Ignorance is bliss with those with deep fiscal pockets I guess.
If I could get a diesel LC here, that would be nice.

Lets just say I work at a place where we use them allot and the Chevy Subs. Out of the two the LC (a new one) was better to drive than the Sub (Granted you wanted to be in the Sub if things went Boom and not the LC). Even with the turbo diesel it was still a slug because of the size and weight. The best one's we had around where the 100 series fully locked out. Great for the Mts. and nimble also, granted the back seat was a mother with full kit on. I would just like to see Toyota get back to what made the 80 series great, full lockers but still have the V8.

Roughly when you get them loaded. They start at about 83k. Used to be a larger gap between the two, i.e. when my stepdad bought his "Lexus Landcruiser" (aka LX470), the LC was about 15-20k difference IIRC. They literally are about 90-95% interchangable. They just changed some of the color/type of material for the interior, badges, and slightly redesign a couple parts like the grill, headlights and wheels. Otherwise you park one next to the other and you'd have a hard time telling the difference. I actually brought home an '05 LC for my step-dad to see parked next to his LX470, other than it being white and the different grill & Toyota Badges it was EXACTLY the same inside and out! LOL Such a rip-off for the Lexus...
The newer Landcruisers (2000's Up) are more "LandRover" competion than off-road vehicle, but still fairly capable out of the box, but expensive to fix. I just replaced the accumulators on his HAC Suspension, cost him about $2200 in parts at my cost.

I "built" one & it came out to be $79,550. The only add-ons are accessories. There are no options. LOL at the comparison page, where they compare an LC with a RR, or MBZ. The "Toyota has an advantage" !
Still, I'll take 2 T4R's, or a T4R & FJ, over 1 LC.

Personally, I think the last true Land Cruiser was the 80 series. Even though the first 100 series is still right there, IMO the 80's were the last thing I would call a "Land Cruiser" in conversation....and usually if I'm speaking of them in conversation, chances are I'm talking about a number between 40 & 62. :biggrin2:

Yeah, I do the same thing. When I talk about the off-road capability of the Land Cruiser I am often referring to the 80 and prior series, the 100 forward series wanted to aim for LandRover territory... if you happened to see TopGear USA they recently took a new Land Rover Range Rover HSE up to Mammoth mountain, during the episode the automatic suspension system went crazy, the roof was leaking through the dome light, and a couple other issues on a BRAND NEW Range Rover.
Point being, these high-end Luxury SUVs are not good for anything more than a muddy road because they aren't reliable in more serious off-road conditions (i.e. the Range Rover or the Air-Ride suspension both the LC and RR use, ect ect.)

I was pretty sure they where close to 100k last time I was on the Lexus website, but your right they're not as expensive as I thought, in Canada they start at $87,500 (2013 LX 570 Overview) though, not cheap and I could see the options added up faster and more expensive that with the Toyota version

I had a motor-less '83 that I was VERY close to either putting a LS motor or a Cummins 4BT into. I ended up selling it after knowing how much work & $$ I would have had to put into either of those swaps. :moping:

I'm still trying to understand the justification for the sky-high price. I can understand the Lexus strategy...but a Toyota 4WD that's twice a 4Runner.... it just boggles my mind.
