Are the ring and oinions interchangeable? Can I take an 8" ring and pinion and use it in an elocker 8.25" third and differential? I can't find a definitive answer by searching.

I broke the gears in my limited elocker and the only 4.30s that i can find came out of an 8" diff. I want to make sure I will be able to use them in the elocker third before I buy them. Im aware that pinion splines may be difderent but I have the matching flange so that won't be an issue.

Possibly, but I wouldn't interchange my onion rings for fries.

ok so you found a 430 gear set out of an 8.25 diff and you want to put that in a 8.00 diff is that right? does anything here not look out of place...? ask yourself the question 3 times then come back and ask it to us again if you still need further clarification/assistance

No, opposite of that.
Meaning, I think it would work. But I can't say for sure either. Putting gears from an 8" into a 8.25".

thats what i thought he ment at first but then he said something about his Elocker, and Elockers only came in the 8" diff. so...?

ask yourself will a 16.5" tire fit on a 16" rim... -they are both mickey thompson too if that helps

Everything that I've read said that the elockers came with the 8.25. That's the reason i asked. If the carriers between the two are the same, theb there shouldn't be any problems. If they are 8" then that answers ny question. It's just when I look at randys ring and pinion it suggests the 8.25 but places like Eriks Toyota Diff Info days 8". That's why I was asking for clarification. No need to jump on me about having a stupid question...

I know how easy it is to be sarcastic on the internet but try looking at it like im not a complete idiot and maybe we can figure something out, here. If the two rear ends share a common carrier then with a matching ring and pinion it would work just fine. I'm new to the Toyota world, not the automotive world. That's the only reason I asked before making a 2 hour trip to pick these gears up.

you have an 8" diff, NO 4runner has ever come with an "8.25"" diff... there is technically no such thing as an 8.25 diff.... anyhow yes if you found a regular non locking 8" 430 set that will work in your Elocked diff, because it is also an 8" diff.
no you can not swap an "8.25" in to an 8 and vice versa, they will not work. the bolt patter is different and the carriers are different. they will not work

Thank you, that's all I needed to know. I was confused by the 8.25 being a "correct fit" for a 99 4runner with the locker on practically every parts site ive looked on.
