BeachWagon I'm not sure how your trying to do it but the 8 wraps compress quite a ways before the body will raise at all. So I just jacked the axle around until it lined up then did the other side. That was for my 7.5 wraps.
With my 9 wraps I just dropped the axle as far as I could with the shocks still attached and used a spring compressor to get the old ones out and the 9 wraps in.

Ill have them try that. Thanks for the quick reply

sure thing. I don't have any pictures or explanation on the first method. We just used a floor jack to move it around and make it all like up. As far as the spring compressor method here is a picture of that. Only thing you would have to do is pull the springs out, run the shocks first, then put the springs in. I don't even think the axle was at full travel here by the way.

this is confusing. i did it w my two hands.

take both tires off, jack up the opposite side of the axle, it will allow more droop to pop in that spring

Well.... It looks like i may have a set of 8wraps for sale.... Didnt seem to matter what we did, no luck at getting the top of the shock any closer to the hole.... So, guess i need to find out which OME spings to get for 3" of lift

Springs went in fine.... It was trying to get the schock mounted back up, we were about 6" from the mount hole

well then secure the top of the shock first and jack the axle up to connect the bottom shock mount. come on dude. dont give up so easy.

when in doubt, grab beer, sit indian style facing problem area of vehicle, and use that noggin'. it'll come to you. i like to think about every single tool i own at the same time im lookin at the problem. eventually the light should go off. . . haha

Are you at a shop having a mechanic do this? Like cordrayj1 said, bolt up the top of the shocks first, then either take a floor jack, or have someone stand on the hub and the bottom shock bolt will line right up. Then, do the same to the other side.

^^^ Exactly. I had no problems doing this at all even with my 9 wraps.

are you trying to run the stock shocks with the 8 wraps?!?!?! like others have suggested instal the top part of the shock to the body first, then hook it to the axle

It'll also help to dab a little grease on the lower shock eye bushing and just give it some pounding with a rubber mallet and the shocks should slide in easy without much resistance......provided you get it all ligned up first. Like others have said. raise or lower the side axle you're trying to work on and it will work.

Lol! Yea, unfortunatly, i can only ask the shop mechanic to go so far before he gives up. Not stock shocks, using the rough country n2 with 3" extra travel. He pretty much was freaked out trying to do it, so i already called toytec and overnigted a set of 890 OME. unfortunalty i dont have tools or space or time to tackle this myself :( Besides, now ill have a brand new set of coils out back :) good excuse to buy brand new parts

That shop mechanic.....

If he can't get the shock lined up with the 8 wraps, I highly doubt he will be able to do it with the 890's. There should be no problems lol. Let us know how round 2 goes.

Lol! Yea, should be interesting. Gettin them over nighted, so theyll be here tomorrow afternoon, drop it off again monday morning, hopefully pick it up that afternoon. Is there much of a difference between the 890 and the 8 wraps in unsprung hight?

I do have to say that i trust him though. He rebuilt my engine about 15,000 miles ago, and haven driven back an forth from Florida to Louisiana, and bak and forth to south Florida a few times, not a single thing wrong, he also has been working on my brother in laws cars and trucks for years, never a return for anything not being right. Dont want to break that record, poor guy was already looking like he wanted to stick his head through a brick wall!

Only a couple inches, the 8 wraps are softer though. As easy of a job it is, I think it would be easier with the 8 wraps.

Is there a t4r.org member near you? If I was close I'd cruise over and help you out right quick. Takes 20 min hahaha

Sorry to hear you're mechanic is screwing it up for you though! You should've been back on the road with your 8wraps and shocks installed a while ago.

Edit: just read your above post. Strange that he can't figure it out!

ok so maybe some people have not clued into this, and i have seen this several times before. -just because a guy("mechanic") can turn a wrench on a motor and replace some brake pads or do an oil change(yes even rebuild an engine...) doesnt mean that he can tackle modifying something.... idk and i dont get it, some people just have an aversion or fear of modifications, or outside the box or something new... and what gets me is how they can survive in this industry... he cant think how to attach the shocks? really. thats as simple as cutting a pizza. i really think its time for you to find a new tech. someone who can think on his own, and is not so wound tight that he can do something new or bring himself to put forth the effort.

idk smh i think your mechanic is a big :baby:
