'84 22R wiring question

Greetings!

I'm working with an '84 4runner 22R.

I just finished up the 32/36 weber swap and I seem to be having some electrical issues. Ive got the choke wired up as it should be, but it seems something in that whole process has killed my battery.

Current Symptoms:
-truck must be jumped for every start
-while running, the radio cuts on an off every time I a)use a turn signal/change the lights/anything on that arm and b)hit the brakes.

Looks like while the truck is running, there's 14v reading out from the battery so it's not an alternator problem, correct?

I want to try tossing another battery in there but I don't want to kill another battery if there's some other underlying issue that needs to be dealt with first.

I'm super green when it comes to electronics so any an all help in the simplest terms is greatly appreciated!

You could take the battery in to get it tested, it's maybe dead or maybe you have a parasitic draw. Let it sit a day and then measure the voltage with the truck off. If it's lower than 12v between the positive and negative studs, you'll want to test for a draw by removing the positive battery cable terminal and testing for amps between the pos stud and the pos cable - make sure everything in the truck is off first.

great, mobile ham radio install is on the list for day so I'll have the stereo out anyway. I'll start there.

Any idea why it would have appeared just after the carb install?

Electrical stuff is weird, there's no telling. And after I reread your post I edited, so reread mine.

OK. I feel like an idiot but I pulled both cables off and cleaned/wire brushed the cables and terminals and it started twice just fine. I'll move forward with the radio install and keep the jumper box in the bed just in case.

I'll probably go ahead with your suggestion tomorrow after it sits overnight as well. unhook the pos cable or both overnight?

That'd be one way to test it. Personally I'd leave it all hooked up and see if you still have trouble in the morning - if so you can look for a parasitic draw, and if you don't find one you'll know the battery is weak. And if you don't have trouble in the morning, then you don't have trouble.
