85 22re running on #1 & 2 only....

I need some help here guys. I have an 85 t4r. 22re, it sat for 6 or so years before I got it. I cleaned the entire fuel system. new pump, filters, lines also full tune up, plugs wires cap rotor and full filter change... It was running great then sat for about a week and now is only running on 1 and 2 and looks like it is gonna jump out from under my hood. If I pull the plugs on 3 and 4 no difference idle remains the same... If I pull the injector plugs for 3 and 4, huge difference pretty much stalls out with either one pulled. I am at a loss. when I pull the plug wires I definitely have spark (poor plier insulation...) and it seems to have good compression. I am stumped... I have checked all over the internet and nothing has applied to my current issue. any help is much appreciated. thanks

So I pulled the plugs they were a little wet, all were black, I pulled the valve cover and belive I may have some deeper issues... it looks like the drivers side timing chain tensioner is broken off and missing, and the chain is contacting the timing cover... now I'm wondering if it didn't skip and cause other issues. So with unknown miles on the engine should I just pull it and go ahead with a rebuild rather than messing with letting it nickel and dime me...

This goes against the "running rich" thing.... but they are known to have problems in the wiring harness that goes to the fuel injectors. I believe the harness splits, from 1 to 2, then 2 to 4. On a 22re that I used to own, as a quick fix, I tied two of the cylinders in, upstream of the split, and it fixed it perfectly. The splits are in the passenger side of the wiring harness... I found the open circuits by squeezing the harness, which made the inoperative injectors work temporarily.

Just a thought... good luck.

Tough call - what's the compression like? If the compression is good, I'd leave the head and bottom end and do everything around it - get the injectors cleaned, replace the timing set, etc. If the compression isn't awesome, I'd yank it and rebuild.

So it looks like I'm gonna yank it and go ahead with the rebuild, the compression was low on 3. I hear engnbldr kits are the way to go, is that about right?
