Ok so ive had my t4r for a few months now and been steadily working on it. Its 85 efi lots of lift 35s and i just put 529 gears in it.. finally got it legal and have drove it a few times and its having an issue. If you run it high way speed for about 5 minutes the exhaust manifold is glowing bright red.. im a pretty decent chevy mechanic so i know enough to get myself in trouble..i know that egts can by high for 2 main reasons.. lack of fuel or lack of timing.. so i bypassed the knock sensor to make sure it isnt pulling the timing out of it.. no change. What i need to know is is there a port some where on the fuel rail or any where to hook in a fuel pressure gauge.. also is the only filter on this thing in the tank? Theres not one in the line any where.. last thing is the guys before me had an aftermarket cam put in.. would this thing run if they missed the chain by a tooth? It seems to run ok for tire size. Gets to 60 pretty easy. Usually (in a chevy) it would be a dog if the cam was off... Anyway any ideas would help i dont know crap about toyota fuel injection but i believe its too lean.... Also no check engine light ... It does work though.. came on when i was messing with the knock sensor.. but went back off afterward..

Thanks daniel

I dont know everything about yotas but my process of elimination
1 check timing ,remember to use the jumper wire to cancel the electronic advance of the timing
2check the afm on the backside of the air filter to see if it has a factory seal (clear silicone) on the little black plastic cover ,and if someone messed with it replace it if parts are available . you can really affect the leanness or richness of the efi by playing with that
3 replace the fuel filter under the efi manifold toward the back ,passenger side of the motor it could be restricting the fuel flow your best bet is go buy one so you know what to look for .
there is no air fuel mixture as on a carbed truck
hope you get it sorted out soon

Pull the codes, even if there's no check engine light there could be something stored.

Toyota Tech - Diagnostic Trouble Codes (matter of fact, just go ahead and read everything on 4Crawler's site, everything you ever wanted to know is buried somewhere in there).

The fuel filter is hiding under the intake plenum, back towards the firewall. PITA to get to, lots of guys relocate it. There should be a valve right on the front of the fuel rail? I've never needed to use it, but that's where I think I remember seeing it. I think if you were off by a tooth you'd be stumbling and completely without power, but definitely check timing anyway.

There's a link up top to a PDF of the Factory Service Manual - grab it and download it quick, before it gets pulled completely off line.

thanks for the info guys.. got the fuel filter changed and pulled the codes.. had a faulty tps code.. also a code 10 and a code 12.. i understand 12 im not sure i understand 10.. do you unhook the battery to clear codes? would like to clear and see what the repeating codes are.. already replaced tps.. anyway it isnt fixed yet.. idles crazy.. like random misses slows down and speeds up.. runs okay highway but still no power .. went ahead and ordered an lc engineering cam because personally i think it has an "rv" cam.. makes tons of power at 1500 to 2500 then out of power at 3.. im gonna check cam timing and what not when i change cam.. gonna keep hacking at it for a while.. may just change to a carb before i waste a ton of time and money on it.. if i cant find enough stuff to swap it cheap i may do a 327 chevy swap and be done with it

Don't forget that high EGT's can also be because of lean condition. From your description I would make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks that are creating a lean condition on top of the other things you're doing also a clogged cat can create to much back pressure and cause high Exhaust system temps. Just some thoughts from the cheep seats:cowboy:

Sam.

Has no cat nothing but a glass pack.. ill check vacuum hoses. Thanks

Reset codes and after driving it a few times it has not tripped any codes.. pulled cam today cam timing was ok but it had atleast 3 bad rockers (one very bad) that one having a flaking lobe on the cam so atleast i found something. Just gotta order rockers now.. shoulda ordered them w the cam but oh well.
