85 Runner Fuel in Oil.

Hey guys.... anyone ever had fuel in their oil? I rebuilt my 85 4runner 22re engine. I put about 800 miles on it and changed the oil. I noticed the oil was very thin. I took a wiff and smell gas in the oil. I did not replace the injectors during the rebuild. I have always had issues starting this truck and found ( I think) the issue to be a faulty cold start injector timing switch. I measured the resistance and it was zero. I believe from memory, it should be between 20 and 40 ohms when cold. So... i changed the oil and disconnected the power connector to the cold start injector. I still have issues starting the vehicle when cold but can usually get it started by the 3rd crank.

So do you think... this could be the cause of the fuel in my oil? Was it flooding the engine with fuel during start up? Or was the cold start injector always running even beyond start up?

I have no idea how the cold start injector works. I assume it is only during start up. Any ideas or advice would help.

As of now... I still have the cold start injector disconnected. The timing switch is 200 plus dollars to replace... Thoughts?????

Sounds like a leaking cold start injector, your time switch might be faulty but your injector shouldn't leak under pressure. I would check the injector while you are at it.

The only place that fuel can really get into your oil is in the combustion chambers. You could have a leaking injector.

Your fuel system stays pressurized after you shut off the engine, and if an injector is leaking, the excess pressurized fuel in the lines could be coming into the chambers, going past the rings and mixing in the oil.

Chances are you have original injectors, and they should be cleaned and balanced at some point (better than replacing).
